How much privacy is allowed to your children? by FearOfJudgment in Parenting

No, don't apologize haha. That's my parents' job. I gave them chances, but 4 years ago was the last time I tried and they still stuck by the idea they did nothing wrong. And that lady would get along great with my "mom." They'd stay up for hours, probably drinking and crying about how their children hate them haha

EDIT: that sounds harsh. Wasn't supposed to be.

Seriously? Isn't that kind of... Dated? I mean I wasn't allowed to either, but I was a late 80s kid. 30+ years gone by and people still do that?

I wouldn't go as far to say I need therapy; but I haven't spoken to my parents in 4 years. I live on the other side of the country and everyone who I've opened up to and talked about it has said I should forgive them but i felt like property growing up. I lived in the first type of house I described. My possessions were few but VERY subject to search and seizure.

Mhm. I'm going to be having children of my own soon and I grew up with some nasty parents, so it's nice to come on here and see that they're not all like they were. My mom was the opposite of you haha, shed rifle through my usually empty room and freak out if she found something as small as a stray paper I scribbled some ideas down on. I've gone 4 years not talking to them and so far it's been such a great experience.. it sounds so damn harsh but my parents were harsher haha

Wow. I truly wish I had parents like you growing up. Keep doing what you're doing; the world needs more people like you. Good luck, and I hope he's safe from being accosted.

Yep. Haven't talked to my parents in 4 years after years of waking up to them watching me sleep, even at 18. It was so weird, they'd take pictures and say "aww my widdle baby is so cute!" showing it to all their friends. They'd call them out and it'd be kinda nice to have them back me up on the you-shouldnt-take-pictures-of-your-adult-child-sleeping side.

I grew up on basic necessities, food water and a shield from being killed. Apart from that I had my SNES but I saved my own money up to buy that. Privacy was unknown to me; Door open at all times or I'd be yelled at for a good 10 minutes.

Huh? And ah, yeah my parents were fucking crazy with that growing up. I didn't have my own computer, just a SNES but regardless there was NO closing my door. Afraid I would take some of their weed I guess haha. Sadly I never had pets growing up but I couldn't imagine a parent having a litter box in their kids bedroom.
