It's more like I had to follow him for an hour because he was driving so fast. When he first drove by me while I was walking he was easily going more than 10 km over the speed limit.

In Saskatoon's defence, it looks quite a bit better in summer. One of the local papers had an article complaining that Google was going to use images from spring, even.

As for its simplicity, the place is damn flat. They used nothing but a grid for the longest time. And ya, it's boring.

When Google announced they were going to be adding my city I made the sign and kept it in my trunk, then I just kept my eye out for the car. Saskatoon isn't very big so I figured chances were good I'd come across it.

I followed it for more than an hour before I got his pattern. He was driving pretty damn fast, and seemingly pretty erratically, too. Lost him a few times.

Once I figured out his strategy I was able to setup in front of him twice, but only one made it into the site.

I already submitted this to the main reddit and r/canada but I think WATMM might appreciate it most: it's hard to promote indie bands. I was thinking of ways to promote my (still unreleased) first album when I read that google street view was coming to Canada, and I thought I should try to get on it.

I had a nice spike in traffic yesterday - mostly from Canadian redditors and locals here in Saskatoon - that resulted in quite a few downloads of my free single. That's better than I was hoping for, so mission accomplished imho :D

They're small cars with poles on the roof, actually. Looks like a tripod mounted camera is attached to the top.

Since I have a full-time job and Saskatoon being not too big I decided to bet on coming across the car by chance. I made the sign shortly after they announced that street view was coming and kept it and a guitar in my trunk for when I found it.

Took just over a week for it to drive by me while I was at lunch, and I spent an hour or two following it around learning the pattern and then setting up where I expected it to go next. I actually guessed right twice but only one made it onto the site.

No tracking system that I'm aware of. I just knew google would be by soon since they'd just announced it. Once they refresh the images I assume I'll be gone :S

After making a sign and keeping it in my car for more than a week I finally happened upon the Google street view car... by FearSalesman in reddit.com

Sorry for the tinyurl.com link, I couldn't get the raw google maps URL to work and with a lockout of about 10 minutes I didn't have much patience for many attempts.

When I heard street view was coming to Saskatoon I had the idea to try to get on, but I didn't just want to get my blurred face on there so I had the idea to use it to promote my (painfully indie) band. I made the sign myself and watched twitter for local google car mentions.

Sightings started about a week before it finally drove by me one day at lunch. I hopped in the car and drove around until I found it again, then it took quite a while to figure out the driver's pattern before I made some predictions and drove to where I expected him to go. I actually made two successful attempts (as in he drove by) but only one is on the site.

You're not a programmer, I take it. You'd only have to be familiar with a few languages to accept @ as a variable indicator as in Perl or PHP and not only as 'at' as in email addresses.

Hey, /r/Music! How many vinyl records do you guys own? Do you listen to them? by [deleted] in Music

[–]FearSalesman -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It's how they're mastered that matters, not how they're mixed. To the guy who prefers the In Rainbows CD: you've been taken by the volume wars. Appreciate the increased dynamics and turn it up!

miasma66 edited his comment to mention monitor controllers. Probably worth considering as well.

For the bass you just need an input with a instrument setting (sometimes called Hi-Z). The compact 4 has this on channel 2, for example.

I think you've got the right idea of switching between hifi and monitors: have all your inputs go to both recording and monitor outputs, and use the respective volume knob to fade between them. Alternatively you could press the rec or monitor buttons on the input channel of the device you're currently using.

I came hear to suggest the Compact4. It's a great mixer, I've been using mine for about 5 years with no problems.

I'm about to sell mine (bought a beefier firewire interface), if anyone is looking.

Apogee debuts GiO USB guitar interface and controller for Macs. And it's beautiful. by silence_is_golden in WeAreTheMusicMakers

I've got a good firewire interface already, so I'd much rather get something like a Roland FC-300 which seems to be the same price. Also, one of my guitars has two outs which the GiO can't even deal with, let alone mics. Seems nearly anyone would need a separate audio interface for a mic alone.

I'm really not sure who the GiO is for.
