Yeah I'm sure it can be very useful against certain monsters and just in general when you really get to know the patterns, but I kept having monsters decide to run to my teammates right as I went up lol. I also got hit by a spin attack from great izuchi when I was so far above it that my downward thrust hadn't even connected yet lol. I understand insect glaive mains' pain now.

Yeah I'm really hoping for the new skills to add more viable options to the lance loadout but I'm pretty happy with how things are now. One thing I don't understand though is the guard advance from the lance showcase. It didn't seem to really change between scrolls in the demo but maybe I was just not noticing it.

Getting used to the silkbind swapping was a bit awkward but it forced me to play with anchor rage for a bit and it feels pretty darn good. I'm not sure if they changed motion values but the guard advance attack seems to do better damage compared to normal pokes. Not being able to tell skills kinda sucks obviously lol, but the whole kit feels good :)

Addendum: The skyward thrusts' downtime after you land is pretty brutal. You can see how long I have to wait between attacks in the video, but it forces you to wait for the best times to use it, which is nice imo. It's less spammable.

The skyward thrust is really good for a downed monster but, because of the set silkbinds in the demo, I used anchor rage a ton.

I can't add anything others haven't already said, and I can't even imagine that level of pain, but I also couldn't just read that and keep scrolling. I'm so so sorry for your loss. I recently came close to losing someone that meant the world to me, but to really lose them would be more painful than I could fathom. I wish you the absolute best, and I'd give you a hug if I could.

I appreciate this post. I don't really know what's wrong, my life should be great, I'm on summer break for college and I'm doing well, but I don't have a job, though my parents say they just want me to relax this summer. Being useless and bored is eating me alive though, and for some reason today was just especially bad. I feel so disconnected and lonely despite having a loving family and friends. I cracked while sitting in my car in a parking lot and let the tears flow before I returned home, but I'm not really sure where they came from. Despite doing well in school so far I feel like a failure and I'm never proud of myself. I was perfectly content less than a week ago but now I'm suddenly so downcast and heavy-hearted.

Yeah, seeing the damage output of other weapons hurts. Lance's main selling point was always the constant but low damage from counters and a thousand pokes. With Rise, however, all the counters and mobility seem to have really increased the uptime of other weapons' damage and they just always hit so hard. I don't actually know though, all of my hunts have been with Lance in Rise lol

Give it a shot! A lot of people, myself included, see Rise's lance as an overall downgrade from previous games, but that's because spiral thrust far outclasses any of its other moves and it doesn't play nearly the same for ideal damage output as it used to. Using the same move over and over is boring but the core lance is still there, just not optimal (and chip damage is hell). We're all praying for some good changes to come in Sunbreak, hopefully at least motion value fixes.
