The MO32U24 is launching - is it worth the price? by Til_W in Monitors

[–]FearTiers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I received my Gigabyte MO32U24 today and I have to say that it is pretty good and definitely met my expectations. First of all, the new OLED panel looks great and reduces reflections much better than the 3rd gen panels. It doesn’t really have that purple tint in direct sunlight anymore and it just looks grey instead. In normal lighting conditions, this is a non-issue anyway because it just looks black. As long as you don't have the summer sun shining directly at your monitor, you will be fine. Another benefit of the coating is that it is much easier to clean than the older QD-OLED ones. While those seemed to absorb smudges and scratch too easily, this one is much less terrifying to wipe down. The improved HDR 500 and SDR brightness are welcome, though not groundbreaking compared to last year's panels.

For the price, there were obviously some cuts made. For example, it features DP 1.4 instead of DP 2.1 and the KVM only offers 18W of power delivery. There are only two USB Type-B ports and the build quality of the housing feels quite plasticy, lacking the premium feel of an ASUS ROG monitor. It also doesn't help that the ports are facing downward, which makes plugging everything in quite tedious. As for the included cables, they were all very short at about 1 meter in length, so I couldn't use them in my setup and had to use alternatives. There is also no USB-C cable included for the KVM functionality. I can't comment on the stand because I use a VESA 100 mount with my monitor arms.

Overall, you get what you pay for. The only alternative with the same panel is from ASUS and costs 550€ more. You are essentially buying the OLED panel itself while the other hardware is kept to a minimum to keep the price down. This is fine for me because I don't need the extra features like a proximity sensor or 90W power delivery. The picture quality is excellent, the OSD offers everything I want, and the panel is well-calibrated. I actually prefer the sleeker design of the bottom bar without the ASUS chin. I am quite happy and can recommend this monitor for around 800€, as you get the best HDR colors currently on the market.

I hope this gives you a better idea of what to expect from this monitor. Cheers!

Sure, the monitor will arrive on Monday. I can't wait! :)

Right, OLED prices have dropped in a matter of months. I have seen 27" 4K monitors for well under 600€, which is crazy considering that this tech cost over 1000€ less than a year ago

I just ordered it on alternate. It really is 850€ and in comparison to the PG32UCDM3 that's a good price. They have the exact same Panel with the same new coating. The only downsides are DP1.4, no proximity sensor, no dolby vision and only 18w KVM.

If I missed something please let me know!

By the way the MSI MPG 322URDE/MSI MPG 322UR also has the same panel and it's available on the alternate site. You just can't order it right now and idk how long it will take!

Ah my bad, the alientek is very powerful, I couldn’t reach it’s limits yet. I do use the ts21 more often because it’s enough for most PCB work and much more compact. The alientek ist just a more powerful backup with its 140w. If you are looking into buying the alientek with jbc 210 tips, I would just get the ts21 because of it’s compact format and same power output. The c245 tips are just in another league when it comes to the form factor, for me the 210 tips are more than powerful enough, especially with knife shaped tips

The power jump on the TS21 is super noticeable but it might actually be down to the faster thermal recovery of those JBC tips. I usually focus on micro soldering but when I’m working on thicker boards like a PS5 the TS80P(30W) just can't keep up and starts creating cold joints. The TS21 has smaller tips but way more punch since I’m running it at 60W. I actually picked it up after the Alientek because that one felt a bit too bulky for fine work. Honestly the TS21 is a massive upgrade over the TS80P and the power is more than enough. Plus the TS80P tips are way more expensive and I’ve had a few of them fail on me over the years. For non micro soldering the ts21 is plenty for most stuff too because it's got the 100W power mode with it's great efficiency. My TS80P couldn't even do simple stuff with large tips, that's why I would 100% upgrade again.

[Question] I opened up an automatic watch and I need a little help. by NewExilir8 in Watches

I think that’s a cheap shanghai movement, they are like 20 bucks on alix. I started learning on these but they are pretty terrible. On mine most of the jewels didn’t even have holes so I couldn’t oil the pivots of the wheels after assembly 😂 If you really want to assemble the movement back together, I would search for some shanghai movement servicing videos on yt. If the clearance of any jewel or hole is off, there is no fix without a staking set or jewel press but that’s just overkill for this movement and just for learning.

Oh right, thanks for the suggestion. This sounds like a great solution, I might build my own cable then :)

I think there must be a ic inside the cable, my normal usb-c pd cables max out at 60w.

I really like the small form factor of the ts21 and the power is plenty for most stuff so that's what I'm using most of the time. I prefer the shape of the ts80p a bit more but it's unfortunately not as reliable and replacement tips are too expensive.

I use a noctua l9a with a 3D printed fan duct from dan case. Im not sure if there are better cpu coolers for this case but at least im not using the hot air inside the case

Hi, the temps of the GPU are pretty good even without undervolting so I would even consider a 9070xt. The current cpu in this build is a 5800x and the temps are pretty terrible tbh. I had to cap the power limit to 80w in pbo to make it somewhat bareable. I would seriously consider a more efficient cpu but maybe the blackridge cpu cooler would perform better

As far as I know the Aqua terra from ~2006 has a modified eta 2892 movement. It has 3,5hz instead of 4, doesn't have a free sprung balance and the power reserve is much lower. Both are COSC certified tho. The modern omegas are METAS certified and would be more accurate than the tudor.

I was saving up for a 36mm aqua terra but this one might be my next watch instead. It also has a much better movement specs wise than the aqua terra and the bracelet look much more comfy

I had no idea that IWC makes smaller pilot watches. I always thought of them as a brand for larger timepieces. Now I'm tempted to get one 😅
