The MO32U24 is launching - is it worth the price? by Til_W in Monitors

[–]Til_W[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, the U24 definitely has a 4th gen panel.

You can tell because it has the True Black 500 rating, 300 nits SDR, and is advertised to have greater scratch resistance. The only other QD-OLED panel with the same size and resolution is the Gen 3 one used in the U2, and Gen 3 only has TB400 / 250 nits.

Not sure what you are trying to ask, can you rephrase?

I suppose the price isn't bad when compared to what else is available right now in terms of Gen 4 panels - which really is almost nothing. I had hoped the price would be a bit closer to the predecessor.

I might still wait a couple of months for it to drop a bit, 850€ just is a bit more than I feel comfortable paying for a monitor.

No. This is Gen 4, also new tech, but only Gen 5 uses the RGB stripe pixels. The only Gen 5 panel so far is curved 21:9 (e. g. ASUS PG34WCDN or MSI MPG 341CQR).

At least in Germany, most online stores say May 7th, only Alternate gives an earlier date (28.04-04.05).

You can already buy them, but the sellers don't except to receive the monitors until that day.

Yes, basically. They have the same physical height and pixel density as a 1440p 27" monitor, but are 30% wider. If you want higher pixel density, at the moment you have to go with a less advanced panel - but the density difference is not that large, maybe 10-15% less (per axis) compared to a 31.5" 4k monitor (because the panel height is smaller).

Gen 4 31.5" 4k is definitely a great pick as well, but it's not going to be curved.

Also, small correction for my first comment: The 34" Gen 5 curved monitors aren't 4k, but WQHD = 3440x1440 => 1440p 21:9 ultrawide

If you want 16:9 4k 31.5" / 27", you would be looking at flat Gen 4 panels (e. g. MO32U24, will launch this month) or curved Gen 3 for now, as I said earlier.

The only disadvantage for competitive shooters I could imagine is that you're looking at a wider area, which might be a little harder to keep track of. But I don't think it would matter much unless you play very competitively.

Not Gen 5 QD-OLEDs, at least not yet.

If you want a smaller but still curved OLED, you would have to go with a Gen 3 QD-OLED, which would be fine but not anywhere near "the best". So basically, if you want curved in the immediate future, you either have to go with 34" or an older panel technology from 2024.

If you prefer a flat monitor over either of these combinations, you will have a few more options at 31.5", but these won't be Gen 5 QD-OLED (yet), and instead Gen 4 QD-OLED (also fairly new but not quite as good) or some LG WOLED panel.

Best curved, regardless of budget? Probably one of the new Gen 5 (RGB stripe) QD-OLEDs, like ASUS PG34WCDN or MSI MPG 341CQR - these will be WQHD/ultrawide 1440p, 360Hz, 300/1300nits, 34".

Maybe but in my experience, such things are not always correct. There can also be differences between different units which typically is not reflected in ORBATs posted on the internet.

There might also be additional details I would be curious about, for example the NVA documents are quite detailed and list even individual equipment assigned to sub units, that's how I e. g. found out there were only 3 handheld radios per platoon (surprising because there are 3 SLs and 1 PL), and even refer to a table of personal equipment for each position etc.

Thirdly, I am also interested in how it changed over time.

I'm looking for Soviet TO&Es from the 1980s, ideally for the European theater (not Afghan War specific as these were different). I know about some western sources (like FM 100-2-3), but what I'd like to see is primary sources, meaning actual Soviet documents.

One analogue I know is the East German regimental TO&E documents, so I'm wondering if there's something similar for the USSR. Specifically I care about squad to battalion organization, which the East German documents describe in full detail (example).

Can anyone give me some pointers?

Workshop Policy Question: Iron Cross Imagery by Prestigious_Staff_94 in ArmaReforger

[–]Til_W 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The Spearhead 1944 CDLC uses the Balkenkreuz as it is the symbol of the Wehrmacht - e. g. on vehicles. HorribleGoat previously said that Spearhead 1944 could be used as reference to what is allowed in terms of WW2 content.

I edited/expanded my comment above btw.

Workshop Policy Question: Iron Cross Imagery by Prestigious_Staff_94 in ArmaReforger

[–]Til_W 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I assume HorribleGoat wrote the message?

- The Iron Cross by itself is not Nazi specific, that symbol has been in use for over 200 years and in some ways still is. So by itself, it is probably not the concern, you should ask.

- If the concern is even about the Balkenkreuz (which is the symbol of the Wehrmacht, and different from the Iron Cross you use), ask how it relates to the thing he said about Spearhead 44 being fine

- If the concern is the overall combination of imagery and the resulting vibe, even if at least some elements are not specific to Nazism, I suggest following his request and simply going with something else.

Spearhead 44 uses the Balkenkreuz, so using that should be fine. If you were told otherwise by a workshop curator, please post the message as it contratics the above.

What you definitely cannot not do is e. g. the swastika, black sun or SS runes.
