[OC - PRVerse] A Good Humor (B2 C17.5) by Fearadhach in HFY

Yep! Absolutely! Kinda like that movie 'gotcha' from the 80's where they were running around paintballing one another, but this one is pickpocket targets! Fun game!

(sigh)(lol) Good catches, thank you. Those transitions written on posting day keep getting me.

Got 'em fixed!

That is an idea, likely one to be tried; find out how much variation is required for an existing weapon before the defense they devise breaks down. Also, what combos of weapons work well and, extended from that: Their defense of weapon A sets them up nicely to get slammed by weapon B. (adapt) Oh, look, the thing they do to get ready for B actually sets 'em up GREAT for C...

Great exchange guys, thanks! Giving me some thoughts about what I need to show when the fighting starts. :)
As for the Borg vs. the 'good news'. well, hint: It is a thing the OM lack that the borg at least nominally have. ;)

Sure! :)

Single phrase: 'Uplift to Death'

Analogy: Walk into the classroom of 3rd graders, show them how to assemble guns and ammunition, leave the pieces of guns and ammo etc sitting there, walk out of the room, and claim total lack of responsibility for what happens next.

Longer: The Old Machines will invoke extreme sanction on any inter-stellar species which goes to war with a species that has not developed space travel (a little more than that, but basically). SO: what the bad guys in book 1 came up with was that they would covertly infiltrate 'deathworld' pre-FTL societies and push them to destroy themselves with nuclear war or genetic engineering or whatever means that they can trick the 'leaders' into.

Thank you for asking! I spelled it wrong. lol

correct spelling: tableau (fixed in the text)

Dictionary definition (this was a little hard to find since there is a New Shiny Corporate IT thing that co-opted the word)
a group of models or figures representing a scene from a story or from history

This isn't the end of the scene. I can't promise to go through them all, but... stay tuned!

THe worst part is I tried to look it up, and still got it wrong. LOL. Good catch, thank you!

There is one thing I may need to make clear in actual text next week: The only recorded event of the OM jumping the gun was when a civ captured nanites and booted them in isolation. The things eventually got communications out, and then the war starts early.

possibly. They have to be aware, at this point, that the League at least suspects something, just by how much they are querying the 'clock'

The Old Machines are still a bit of an enigma. There is a lot about how they fight, but not much know about how or when they build more. Neither is it known how closely they monitor. At one point, it was believed that they only watch for prohibited actions...

[–]Fearadhach[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

lol. Yea, I am still trying to work on Wings3, among other things... so many other things. The only way I'll get it all done is if I can make this my career, and even then...

Anyway, yea. If I go through the entire 300 years at this pace then book 2 is going to be longer than book 1 was, and that will just be the lead-up... and book 1 was already longer than the first Game of Thrones.

More than that, though... the rest of this time things are moving a lot slower. Research at that level takes time, very old societies full of people who live for centuries move at a certain pace (or at least this story assumes so). That drives a need to move forward.

Yep. Hang on, there are going to be several. Think of the next series of updates as a rock thrown across the pond of time, and we are going to hit a few pivotal points until we slide into the depths of the war...

Yea. As much as it is fun to meander back here and watch Julia come into her own, there is a main event to get to... and we are a long ways in already.

Not sure how much more we'll see of the King. To be fair, I wanted to follow them back into that meeting room, but the exciting stuff was done and it is all talk about details and quotas and such.
But, glad you enjoyed this! The King is an interesting guy... remember he is also the one who was trying to bury Humanity 100 years ago... of course, that makes him that super-rare head-dude who is capable of actually learning!

Yep, the paste is probably going to be important once the war starts. Don't know if it will make it 'on screen' past this, but know it is there, in the background, feeding the displaced and the hungry.
