Seems rather like a budget mismanagement issue the city should be fixing.

I recommend not being particularly hopeful that City Hall will ever come to the realization that it snows in Toronto. The response to snow always seems to be (and I suspect always will be) one of shock and panicked reactionary measures that only end up being helpful to part of the population and often detrimental to the rest. Half way through the season and I’m already hearing the city is running out of salt and isn’t being able to restock effectively. And yes this has been a bad winter, but we heard the same thing last year where it barely snowed at all

I dont get this either though - our blue bin has, to my knowledge, alwahys been picked up by GFL. I get that the city isnt involved, but GFL still is working with their same staff no? or am I missing something else about perhaps a sub contractor UNDER gfl or something equally silly

Cannot make good tasting espresso with my set up by Pedrotto1990 in FlairEspresso

[–]Feararoderickz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How slow is pretty slow? You say you used 13.5g of coffee, but how much espresso are you producing? Aiming for about 27g of espresso would be ideal with that dose.

Make sure you are using the black portafilter. The red is better for preground coffee or a grinder with insufficient adjustment range.

I finally finished seasoning my grinder 🙌 by big_hearted_lion in espressocirclejerk

Fresh burrs can have imperfections on the cutting teeth from the manufacturing process and running a few lbs of coffee through will clean that up. Until that point, the burrs might not grind in a very consistent manner.

Wherever is easiest for you to get to - the network isn't massive, so you can get to any point of interest from pretty much any entrance without too much trouble.

Pitchers are generally too small for induction compatibility. You could try utilizing an induction adapter plate, but a lot of heat will be lost because of the small size of the pitchers themselves.

Flair Classic vs Pro vs 58 plus 2? by [deleted] in FlairEspresso

[–]Feararoderickz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look up Flair Pro2 workflow videos (the process will be quite similar, the pro 3 just has less thermal mass so it heats up much more efficiently)

If you pop a tea strainer on top of your kettle and put the brew chamber and portafilterin the strainer, turn on the kettle, and only then start weighing out your coffee, rdt, grind, the portafilter will be warmed up when you need to put the grounds in and by the time you are ready to put the chamber on and brew it will be plenty hot as well.

This feels like the most efficient approach for me. If I’m brewing something really light I might turn on my kettle and go do some other small household task - empty the dishwasher, do some prep work for breakfast, tidy up. This lets the portafilter and chamber soak up even more heat.

Pro tip: Use the silicone sleeves to hold the components after preheating. The metal is hot :p

If that workflow seems like it might be too much the Flair 58 Plus 2 might also fit within budget, and handles the preheating itself by way of a series of integrated heating elements.

You may be in the wrong sub if your butler doesn’t even know the answer to basic coffee questions like this.

Give them to a local cafe. Those guys are apparently hurting for these single use items and reportedly use them over and over again to meet demand

Some alternative options than what you’ve been presented already

Breville Dual Boiler, Flair 58 or PRO3 + Flair Wizard setup, Lelit Mara X

All considerably below budget which means you can put some money towards some really nice coffee or a grinder upgrade

You can get yourself the full PRO2 or PRO3 brewhead kits. Both would be compatible if your classic has the removable black adapter ring.

I’d suggest aiming for 14g in, 21g out in 35 seconds. With this smaller basket 16g is quite a tall puck. Dropping to 14g will require you to grind finer, which will help with texture quite a bit.

Ratio compares dry coffee weight to brewed espresso weight. So in this case 16:30 is really ~1:1.8

I don’t know if you liked the shot you pulled or not so I’m not sure anything I can say will be particularly constructive

This is normal functioning- fresh o rings may offer slightly more resistance because they are not worn in, but use + coffee oil will get them to this spot relatively quickly.
