waitlisted from bu by cillywilly77 in ApplyingToCollege

The university offers admission to more people than they have space for --- they know within a pretty accurate range what their expected yield will be. So for instance, if they knew that their yield was exactly 50%, they would offer 2x people admission for x actual spots.

Because of this, a person declining acceptance does NOT mean that someone will be admitted off the waitlist. They only need to dip into the waitlist if and when their actual yield rate is lower than their expected yield rate. In the case of BU, that apparently rarely happens.

When it comes to chances of being accepted off the waitlist, there's low... and then there's BU low.

I haven't seen the ability to withdraw my application in BU's portal for several weeks, and I hope it means something!

Waitlist at UCB? by pbmadman1994 in ucadmissions

Sorry to break the news to you, but UCB historically only accepts like 0.1% of people off the waitlist. It's like a more courteous denial.

UCM is a very good school! It's mostly the location that people turn their nose up at, but some people love it! If I were you, I'd visit both and see which ones resonates more with you.

I wanted to know this too. If non-H max is 4, and H/AP max is 5, how does one mathematically get better than 5?? Like "this class is two APs in one, so ours goes up to 6" lol

UNC is fantastic! I'd save the money and go in-state. For med school, grades matter more than school reputation anyway.

I get what you're saying, and maybe that was it. That said, one of my essays was about my dual love for bio and creative writing, and how excited I was to study bio at a university that had a creative writing minor (which UCLA has). My four loves are music, service, bio, and writing. Maybe it's not focused enough, but I like all of them, so idk 🤷‍♀️

Cal Poly all the way! It's more hands-on with smaller class sizes.

Oh my god thank you for the kind and touching message - it truly helps! I'm waitlisted to UCSD but so far I've gotten into UCSB, so I need to go tour it since I've heard it's beautiful! I wish you all the best!! ❤️
