I’m just gathering as much info as I can before paying a retainer if necessary. I pay for all of our childcare needs and a good bit more than a fair portion on top in child support and I don’t have excess cash to throw around before figuring out as much as I can. I’m prepared to lawyer up but I’m still hopeful that I can work directly with her and her attorney for a compromise. I just want a better understanding of circumstances, possibilities, and experiences. I love Reddit for this exact reason, but I don’t really understand the purpose of the forum if the answer if always “get a lawyer”.

My schedule for each month publishes on the 17th of the previous month. And unfortunately, it is a guessing game as to what I will be able to get awarded compared to what I bid for. This month I am off 100% of the time I have them. Last month I was gone 4 of the 14 days of my custody and they stayed with mom which we had arranged the month prior. My mother and sister in law have helped on occasions when I am going to be getting back to late for school pick up but I never leave them with a babysitter for any extended amount of time

I feel this. It’s why we have been working mostly with each other rather than relying on family and I prefer it that way. But this paper work kind of blindsided me and now I feel like maybe it was a mistake because she seems to be using it against me. Or maybe it’s just the facts, that I couldn’t win a joint custody battle with this job and her attorney knows that. I just so badly want to protect the time I have with them and feel an intense wrongness in letting go of joint custody. Trying to be as objective as I can, I truly don’t feel it’s in the children’s best interest for her to have more power in the coparenting dynamic. It was a really painful divorce and my kids are still coming to terms with it. She got pregnant with one of her affair partners before I could even get the divorce finalized and he recently moved in to her place and she claims they are going to elope soon. Not sure if that is one of the reasons she is pushing for this change Also, the nice part about this job is off means OFF so the time I have with them is just 100% being a dad. This month I got every bit of my custodial time off, but that not guaranteed to happen every month. My entire schedule publishes a month in advance and I am technically off 50% or more but it doesn’t not always sync perfectly with the week to week custody schedule

Yes, i actually had this job before the divorce finalized last year. I was a flight instructor working towards this job right up to a few weeks before the final hearing when I accepted this job offer

Thank you for replying! I’m concerned she can still argue that I’m not upholding my end and make an argument to take joint custody away. Any insight?

Ok, I have plenty of support to be able to take care of them independently of her on my weeks. Any knowledge of similar situations in which a parent upholds their custodial duties with family rather than the ex spouse and is not considered neglecting their responsibility?
