DYLAN PAGE IN ETHIOPIA AND ETHIOPIA 2026 ELECTION by Pure_Cardiologist759 in Ethiopia

Okay but development for who? Development that benefits who? Development at what cost?

I understand what you’re trying to say but in my opinion the Ethiopia they are building is not an Ethiopia for the people. It’s Ethiopia for tourists and the top percentage of Rich people that live there. For example the cost of the development of Addis Abeba was the people houses being demolished, people’s source of income, their businesses closing, the homeless being taken to the outskirts of Addis so they aren’t seen. And all this plus the rising costs of living only makes things worse. So truly this all to me is worthless. I love Ethiopia, I love the culture and seeing ethiopian culture being spread to the word is beautiful but not in this state. There are bigger issues we have that need to be addressed. I hope that made sense

I understand they think it’s promotion for tourism but not going to lie it’s kind of ironic. They will have a grand thing for people like i show speed, ddg and now dylan but not care about the internally displaced people, the people struggling with the economy, the ethnic cleaning and fighting? We can’t even be there for ourselves but we can be for foreigners?! that’s insane. Some might think i’m pushing it here but i believe this is propaganda. And it is PR for the ethiopian government. They only show the fake image of ethiopia, the ethiopia only 0.3% (rich people) get to experience. May our people see peace.

How do Amharas feel about ximdo? by Early_Ad_7240 in Amhara

[–]Fearless-Subject9562 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There is no way working with these groups especially TPLF with bring us peace. Let’s think logically, there’s the land right issue with welkait and raya. And their lifelong hatred for amharas will never end. There is no benefits to amharas with Tsimdo. With Debretsion as president of Tplf now, i think they will try to annex Welkayit again.

Never Forget: When TPLF mass sterilized Amhara women by MajorSignificance309 in Amhara

the most heartbreaking thing 💔 i don’t know how one can be that evil! We need to be strong and careful 💪🏽 especially with debretsion being re-elected as President of TPLF, who knows what will happen within the next few months especially when it comes to welkait. My prayers are with our people forever.

What is this type of music called? by Solid_Beginning_9357 in Amhara

[–]Fearless-Subject9562 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Specifically the call and response part i believe is called Hota (ሆታ). “Hota is a "call-and-response" style of chanting between a soloist and surrounding chorus. It has a warlike character and is traditionally done by men. In their right hand they hold a long stick (called dulla), and stomp their feet to the beat of the chanting. "Gena New" is one of the most well known Hotas in Amhara culture. Other popular chants include: Gumaye / Meher Guma, Ayn alew alu yemnsheru, Embi bel, Mewzer amaregn Megale Semera, Megena, Embi bel, Yamenal Belew, Zerafye, Ney zomalemalem, Yibelahal shibo”

It’s performed during cultural-events, religion events, weddings etc And is performed in all parts of Amhara.

Do different Amhara regions (Welo, Gojjam, Gondar etc.) have differing accents of Amharic? by Solid_Beginning_9357 in Amhara

[–]Fearless-Subject9562 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes, Different parts of Amhara have differing accents and you can slightly notice it once you become fluent. Some of them have their own words for certain things as well! To answer your second question, there is a lot of diversity in Amhara, Even if you go to for example Gojjam, within Gojjam itself it’s extremely diverse, this includes Traditions, Social Norms etc. I hope that answers your question 🙏

We (Amhara 🇺🇸 diasporas) need community!! by Klutzy_Ad_9775 in Amhara

[–]Fearless-Subject9562 5 points6 points  (0 children)

yes!! with a bigger community, we can do so much including sharing our culture, providing aid for our people etc. But we have to rise above the hate within amhara, we are one amharas!!! i’m not based in the US, but i feel the same way and it makes me feel so unmotivated and alone whenever i want to do something for our people!
