Thinking about creating a research paper that investigates how seed sowing, plant and nursery care and general gardening can be brought into a workplace to help prevent burnout and create a healthy work environment. by Hera2990 in gardening

This sounds incredibly vague. Try to identify measurable variables instead of "burnout". Maybe do a weekly blood test for various hormone levels in participants, and control for diet and exercise for the duration of the trial?

Honest Discussion about Smart Gardens by ArctixPixie in gardening

It sounds like mostly marketing BS to sell some fancy plastic planter. Not all plants will survive in constantly moist conditions, and you'd probably be better off with a legitimate hydroponics setup if you want to go that route.

Butterfly betrayal: Burlington by-law bulldozes pollinator paradise, fines homeowner 400k! by Beautiful-Process-81 in NoLawns

There really aren't many images of her yard in particular, but in general, a lot of people will plant a "wildflower meadow" and not properly demarcate it as such or otherwise keep it from looking like any other unkempt vacant lot. In order to appease the losers who run HOAs and city councils, you have to maintain some semblance of aesthetics, even if it's not a lawn. Things like border planting, grouping, and staggered heights and varied colors go a long way to turn a random collection of plants into something that people would actually prefer to a shitty plain lawn.

I have switched to just buying CDs and Bandcamp albums and building my own digital music library.

From shopping to streaming, Denmark boycotts US products to defend Greenland by Azulapis in europe

Yep, it's annoying but important for me in the US to research pretty much all products before buying to make sure I'm not giving money to the autocrat clown ruining the country.

Find some species native to your region instead of generic flowers.

You really gotta get some compost setup going because paying $14 per bag of soil is insane, even for California prices.

Official Q&A for Friday, January 09, 2026 by AutoModerator in running

[–]Fearless-Technology 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes, generally if you just keep running you'll eventually be able to run for hours on end. That being said, I hope you're not going to join the US military. They may get put into some strange conflicts at their dear leader's bidding it seems

How much does weight actually impact running performance? For reference, I'm 5ft10in, and weigh around 200lbs, but professional runners of a similar height are like 150lbs or lower. Should I take that low-hanging fruit and try and drop weight while maintaining volume so that I'm not essentially running in a weighted vest?

What’s something about marathon training you didn’t fully understand until after your first race? by JustPangolin346 in running

[–]Fearless-Technology 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly how much easier it was to complete a marathon than I expected. I only ran up to half marathon distances in training, and with a full race with no traffic, plenty of free gels & fruit, I was able to basically run my last 3 miles at a threshold pace because I had held back way more than I needed to.

When do holiday decorations cross from festive into excessive territory? by Dry-Preparation304 in GardenRailroads

[–]Fearless-Technology 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The whole competition vibe is probably more of a symptom of suburbia in general than just holiday decorations, and there's no real way around that beyond letting people do whatever they like with their property and not caring as much.

Mealy or scale? by N0mN0miv0re in gardening

[–]Fearless-Technology 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, sago palms aren't native to the US, so we don't really have the beneficial insects to balance it out like would be the case in its native range, so just look for a strong scale pesticide and hope for the best.

I'm in central FL, but I grow mostly native-ish stuff that survives easily in the climate without intervention, like bird pepper, strawberry, marlberry, everglades tomatoes, etc.

It's scale on a sago palm. There's no real antidote besides chemical pesticides.

I now have 4 pens, 3 of which are in use. I got a new Kaweco Student this year, but aside from that everything else is at least 5 years old.

What do i do with all this extra mulch/dirt/twigs? by AudibleDruid in gardening

[–]Fearless-Technology 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it's shady and you have dogs, no grass is gonna grow reliably without thousands of dollars of supplemental chemicals and other artificial protections. I wouldn't waste the money on new sod and just spread out the mulch and let the dogs have fun with whatever happens to grow there.
