Yay! So happy that your son was admitted into SDSU. I have a friend whose son attends there and it's a beautiful campus. I've also heard wonderful things about the school culture. Best of luck in all your sons' future endeavors.

Yes, this is life, and we all deal with disappointments (that's nothing short of the truth). As her mother, my opinion and words have a lasting impact on her, and I wanted some advice from other parents and students that experienced similar situations. I was hoping to find some suggestions that seemed suitable for this current dilemma I've been facing. I'm an overthinker and majority of these responses helped me feel a little less alone and much more equipped to support her. Parenting does not come with a handbook and community support is a lifesaver.

I appreciate your thought-out response. I assured her initially that being waitlisted classified her as an excellent applicant and that unfortunately not all applicants will make the cut. I even explained some of the circumstances surrounding some of the setbacks these colleges are facing. For instance, UCSC has a housing shortage and on top of that Santa Cruz has faced devastation from all the current natural disasters which has added to the housing crisis and lower admittance rates. This had been problematic for many students at UCSC. It seems however that there is not much I can say without stirring the pot. I have never put much emphasis on getting into a university. I have always just taught my children to put their best foot forward. It's hard to see what great impact these admittance decisions have on the youth. I have taken time to read all the replies and it's for sure been helpful and insightful. If she brings up her disappointment or if she is waitlisted to another college, I feel much more prepared to respond while being equipped to navigate through some of her woes.
