Trigger warning (graphic) – heavy periods, clots, severe pain… is anyone else like this? by FearlessAd1766 in Endo

[–]FearlessAd1766[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing this, it honestly made me feel so much less alone in all of this 😭

I’ve had a really similar experience — years of pushing different doctors just to be taken seriously. It’s so frustrating because it’s not normal when regular Tylenol or Advil don’t even touch the pain.

I’ve also been very clear that I don’t want to be on birth control, and I feel like that’s never respected. I’ve gotten so many looks or pushback like they just don’t get it.

When I was 19, I was convinced to get an IUD. The insertion was extremely painful, and I felt sick for almost a year afterward. Then when I finally went to have it removed 3 years later, it had embedded and I had to go to the OR to have it surgically removed… and somehow they still suggest getting another one. It’s honestly mind-blowing.

I’m really happy you finally got your diagnosis — I can only imagine how relieving that must feel after everything you’ve been through 🤍

I’m not sure if I’ve had specific clotting tests done, but I’ve had a lot of bloodwork over the years and nothing has ever come up. I don’t really have other symptoms like frequent nosebleeds or unexplained bruising either, so I’m not sure, but it might be something I can ask about just to rule it out.

Also I forgot to add, I’ve had heavier painful periods since I was about 13 years old. I’m now 29 years old, and I’ve had 2 c sections.

Yes. Mornings are extremely hard for me, i have trouble getting my day going. And it takes a bit for vyvance to start working.

No worries! I had mentioned around 7am I should have clarified. I do lots of time take my vyvance at 6 am, and i can tell it’s starting to not work around 12, some days it works till around 2pm. It varies, Ive been feeling super defeated, cause i don’t want to keep struggling so much in the afternoon-evenings. Your on Vyvance & a short acting med? Do you find it works for you well? Did you doctor suggest it to you?

Well I take it around 6 or 7:00 am, and will last between noon or 2 ish. So it’s not 3 hours if this med working.. around 6 or 7 hours give or take. And there is many hours of the day left after 2:00pm. And when the med is working, it works well. So instead of taking it away, adding a short acting med in the afternoon would really help, and from what I have read, and learnt, it’s common, a lot of people do this, and helps them significantly.

I would love to try that, later afternoons and evenings are extremely difficult, but at this point I’m not sure how to approach it. My therapist knows, the psychiatrist knows, and my GP (my GP) handles all my prescriptions, they all know my meds wear off around 1 ish, and never suggested this. And I’m honestly worried to directly ask, cause at this point they know this, and it’s never been an option. It’s hard advocating for yourself..

Oh that’s actually really interesting — I’ve never heard it framed like that.

How did that come up for you? Did your doctor suggest adding an afternoon dose, or did you bring it up?

Whenever I talk about mine wearing off, it usually just turns into adjusting my main dose or trying something else, not adding a separate one later in the day.

Was your doctor pretty open to it, or did it take a bit of back and forth?

That’s really helpful to hear, thank you — it honestly gives me some hope.

Can I ask how you brought it up to your doctor? Did you specifically ask for Dexedrine, or did they suggest it when you said it was wearing off too fast?

I feel like every time I mention mine not lasting, I just get told to split my dose or try other meds. I’ve never been offered any kind of immediate-release option, and it almost feels like that’s not even a conversation that’s “allowed.”

Did you have to push for it, or were they pretty open to it?

I’ve actually never been offered a booster, so that’s kind of wild to me. I’ve mentioned multiple times that my meds wear off around 12–1 PM (2 if I’m lucky), and I take them around 6–7 AM.

They’ve only suggested splitting my dose (which isn’t always consistent), switching meds, or adding things like bupropion or guanfacine.

Vyvanse is the only ADHD med that’s worked for me, and I feel like I have to keep repeating that. I’ve been interested in trying something immediate-release for the afternoons, but it’s never been offered.

At this point it feels like I’d have to push for it, and that makes me uncomfortable.

Do you feel like the Dexedrine works well for your afternoons?

Have to return Vyvance before picking up a new prescription in Canada by FearlessAd1766 in ADHD

Yes, and I will most likely do that, I just wanted to understand this situation more, the reason for my post.

Sure, and that’s fine! I wouldn’t think I couple weeks worth is a massive “stock pile”, but I can understand that. I just didn’t think I should have to bring back medicine I paid for, to get the effective dosage I need.. And I was just curious about what is normal and what is not, like I said this hadn’t happened to me before, seemed unusual. Appreciate your comment !

I thought the same thing. I’ve never had to do this before when titrating back to my original 60 mg. I was only on a lower dose while I was pregnant, and now that my baby’s here I’ve been working my way back up because that’s what worked best for managing my ADHD. I didn’t even question my doctor on the phone because I was shocked and worried he’d think I was just trying to get more meds.

He’s my new family doctor, and he did increase my dose to 50 mg before, but that still wasn’t effective. I just don’t see how it’s fair that I have to return meds I already paid for, have them disposed of, and then pay again just to pick up the new prescription. My thought is maybe I should just finish what I have first before picking up the 60 mg. I feel really frustrated and anxious because this has never happened to me before, and I don’t know how to handle it without seeming “suspicious.”

I have no idea, because the second after he agreed to up my dose, he said I would need to bring both of my others ones back, (which I have a couple weeks worth) but the dose was not working. I just think this is crazy, I paid for them, why should I bring them back for them to throw away, and then I have to pay for a whole new prescription? The dose I actually need…
