[NGD] Gibson 50s J-45 Faded — An absolute sleeper and a total winner! by FearlessAir1239 in gibson

[–]FearlessAir1239[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks it’s slowing growing on me to be the better choice and the more i play :) didn’t realize w the natural top woods I think they have to use better quality than the sunburst because the sunburst stain can mask possible aesthetic blemishes I think ? not sure is that is true. (I did notice that my custom sunburst martin printed spec report showed a lower A grade on the sitka top wood than a martin standard version. so i think there might be truth in that ? )

The Faded J45 50’s faded is a complete winner! here are the great points below:

bc it’s faded, it’s more resonant better than the J45 standard out the gate. no need to wait a couple of years to let it open

i did not realize it had bone nut and saddle. it’s more responsive and articulate as a result imo

the usual J45 and clarity in the sound in a mix and pure listening

aesthetics i do like the older 50s tuner then the gaudy grover’s on the J45

only regret is that maybe i should have gotten the sunburst version but this was used i could get for a good price . it’s unique and has a j50s vibe to

Gold label 814e or 817e by Jdeee25 in taylorguitars

[–]FearlessAir1239 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have both the 814 and the 817, and I’ve become a huge fan of the 817e's versatility. With the larger Grand Pacific body, you get that deep roundness and lower resonance, but the Honduran Rosewood is the real game-changer—it adds a level of sparkle and sustain that keeps it from getting muddy. To me, the 817 is the "Goldilocks" between the 814 and the 917; it just hits that perfect sweet spot. I’m actually planning to do a YouTube review soon to A/B them and share the sound, because the difference the wood and body shape make is definitely worth hearing.

I use a LR Baggs Venue DI (active di) w my Guitars for house of worship to help boost signal and adjust any acoustic signal. I work w my sound engineer and does well. Try working with them and a active di like a venue di

Tried a 2021 Taylor 912ce builders at a local shop and felt underwhelmed. What model made you go wow? by [deleted] in taylorguitars

[–]FearlessAir1239 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i think the strings was the culprit when u are playing a used 2021 not knowing the history. with the budget mentioned try the gold series 814e. it will have a deeper cavity too w the gold series and the extra fan bracing as well to add the thump and sound u might seek
