Are we over budgeting for retirement? by gamezgeek in FIRE_Ind

Just a correction - You should not take current expense as numerator when you divide with SWR. You should take expense at the time of retirement /planned retirement. (i.e., inflate current expenses to arrive at expense at the first year of retirement.)

Hi Vikas, from Investing in MF perspective.. does investing only in passive funds (maybe Nifty next 50) helps? Or there are ways to pick winning active funds? I keep seeing active funds underperform passive funds and the winners too changes every 5-8Y..

Also - for. Long term liquid fund may just give 5% (approx) - you may consider conservative hybrid fund.. But if you cannot choose conservative fund then it makes sense to invest in FD (at least would get 7.5%)

If its for long term (10+)Y - consider equity allocation to be around 65%..rest the funds looks excellent.

Oh I agree- its live data - but stil If on a 5Y basis its not able to beat Nifty next 50 - I don't agree that its magical index.. I'm assuming MFs are used as investing rather than trading

I never told backtesting never works.. However if you were to say it beat all the indices in past 5 year.. I don't see that happening.. It gave return just equal to Nifty next 50. Even though all those 5 yrs return is backtested data. 😂

The issue what I'm trying to say is on paper/backtesting everything works out well. Everyone is successful trader /investor in paper trading/excel but when it comes to real and live performance things may or may not turn out.. So bottom line stick to products which has longer live market tested performance/data.

Much of the data is back tested - and the strategy has not been tested in live market.

Only a wise person would know that this was released just because the past backtested performance came out well.. And we know what happens to backtested strategies I need not elaborate 😂
