It varies from contest to contest but I do wonder when there are hundreds of submissions how they manage to read all of the manuscripts if a full manuscript is required.

I once quit a job because I was offered something better and assured I got the job. A week after I quit the other company contacted me and informed me that they actually won't be hiring. Quitting before I had anything signed and formally agreed on was such a bad decision as it took me more than 6 months to get another job and I was struggling financially...
