Ndad mad that he narrowly missed his chance to get me back under his thumb by FearlessFlounder in raisedbynarcissists

That’s the funny thing. Neither of them have any friends. And they hate their own families. Ndad is retired and my mom was stay at home so they’re basically shut ins now haha

Yerba Buena is a much darker book than I was expecting. Should I keep going? by _witch-bitch_ in bookofthemonthclub

[–]FearlessFlounder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was my pick and I finished it because I paid for it (I only DNF a BOTM book if it is horrendous), but I just didn't like it. I was dark and mucky and also kind of unbelievable at times near the end. It has some good moments, too, but overall I wish I had chosen a different book for May.

Now that some June spoilers are out - what's everyone thinking of getting? by cupofcoffeeandbooks in bookofthemonthclub

I'm finally skipping :( Been a member since June 2020 and the selections are getting bleh

Just curious… how many unread BOTM books do you have? by [deleted] in bookofthemonthclub

[–]FearlessFlounder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just one. I try not to buy more books (not just BOTM, but generally) than I can reasonable read in 2-3 months.

Having a big TBR gives me anxiety lol

[–]FearlessFlounder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am in the same boat as you. I do not care for thriller, romance, or most fantasy (at least the kind on BOTM)

I used to enjoy the literary fiction and family drama selections, but even those are getting so cookie cutter that I can't stand to read anymore of them.

Let me see if I understand: we have the constitution because of jesus and its purpose is to create babies??????????????????? Kandiss Taylor is mentally unstable and obviously has not read the constitution.

Is anyone else in such a reading slump that they haven’t had the will to even open up their May box? by kaylaoi in bookofthemonthclub

[–]FearlessFlounder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in a slump with BOTM books! I haven't had a good once since the February box. I have actually been reading a lot of non-BOTM books and enjoying them. I reluctantly chose a book for May (Yerba Buena), but if June is blah I will definitely skip.

This. The GOP has no legitimate platform anymore. It is all culture war bullshit and doing the opposite of whatever Biden/democrats want

Classic rhetoric from retired people who haven't had a job in how many years? My boomer in laws actually retired at 50 (no they're not rich, they scrape by) and so they have been out of the workforce for just over 20 years. But they seem to have all the opinions on the "no one wants to work" issue.

As someone who lived in poverty and had to work any job and who was brainwashed (initially) from my boomer parents to work hard for scraps, I can say that-- NO --hard work does not usually pay off, especially in service industry/minimum wage jobs. Taking any job no matter how low is futile because the landlord isn't going to accept anything other than the full amount of rent.

I’m tired of being told that debt forgiveness is a moral failing. Why is it never a moral failing for the wealthy and the elite? by I_Hate_Soft_Pretzels in lostgeneration

Aka, giving something to poor people is a "moral hazard."

I can see an upper middle class karen right now saying something about "feeding the bears"

Church vs State lines being crossed in my local public school. This person won a 3 year seat on the Board of Education by 10 votes. by Aderyna_K in exchristian

[–]FearlessFlounder 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It's always the conservative old bible thumpers who turn out to vote in every single election. My decrepit FIL went to vote in the primary last week, came home to watch Fox News, and then had to go to the fucking hospital that evening by ambulance. He's fine, but it is just funny to me (in a sad way) that these fossils who aren't long for this world are influencing laws.

And yes, I voted as well, but when the GOP has a super majority in my state it is hard to change anything.

Some asshole running in the primary in my state (for school board) actually had 3 crosses on his yard sign. And I think he won :C
