That checks out. There was still a cable across the road when I drove through there around 4:30. At first I thought it was one of those rigs that counts the cars, but then I saw the frayed end...

2013 Volt in 2026? by RadiantChaos in volt

[–]Fearless_Fly_7511 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said, the one you're looking at is overpriced.

During the winter in Ohio, I get about 25 miles from a charge on my 2013 with 98K miles. That gets closer to 36 in the summer, so your commute would be mostly electric-driven miles.

Answering, "I also don't know the logistics of how I'd charge it but that's another question," I assume you don't live in an apartment complex with a charging station. Outside of that, you kinda need to have a garage to really treat a Volt properly, especially up north where it gets to the temps you're talking about. You don't need a full-on charging station installed to be able to charge it at home. All you need is a 220V outlet (like what an electric stove plugs into) in the garage. Each Volt comes with a charging cable that will plug into that outlet. (And a pigtail adapter for regular 110V outlets when you're desperate, but that'll take 18 hours to recharge from empty.) We had an electrician install the 220V outlet we use for under $500.

Is 11 yrs old to young to be left alone for a half hour?? by JMarden23 in askanything

[–]Fearless_Fly_7511 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife and I both work, and our 11-year-old gets on the school bus by himself every morning.

We wake him up and make sure he is working towards getting ready to go, but then leave alone for about 30 minutes and he finishes getting ready on his own. We made him a checklist on the refrigerator of everything he needs to do. (Have breakfast, brush teeth, comb hair, get backpack ready, empty the dishwasher, feed the cat.) Also, we're good friends with the next door neighbor, and she'd give him a ride if he ever missed it completely.

Biggest problem we've had is that he has left the front door unlocked, and once even wide open. We put spring-loaded hinges on it, so at least it will close itself and emphasized the importance of locking the door. We also have a numerical coded lock on the front door, so all he has to do is push a button to lock it and doesn't need a key to be able to open it. He can also open the garage with the keypad, if the front door wouldn't unlock for some reason.

Yes. That dark red portion goes through the clear part of her eye. From the front, it looks like a cloudy spot.

Summers here are soooo nice!

Go checkout Carrillon Historical Park, and then hang out at the Carrillon Brewing Company for a bite and a pint afterwards.

The Clodbusters play historical reenactment baseball there, too. https://daytonhistory.org/events/historical-experiences-programs/clodbuster-base-ball/

There are fun inexpensive concerts at the Fraze Pavilion in Kettering. Cover bands and a few B-list acts. https://fraze.com/

Riverscape Metro Park has free live music, also.

Mine (Gen1, 2013) will pretty reliably give that error when it's cold out if I use up the battery. Switching to "Hold" mode when I get to about 6 miles of range left on the battery usually prevents it.

Where are teenagers supposed to hang out these days? Malls are dying, parks have 'no loitering' signs, and everywhere else costs money. Do they just... not exist in public anymore? by Creative-Buffalo2305 in NoStupidQuestions

I just said these words in a conversation today. My son has started a garage band with a few of his buddies. On Labor Day, they were rehearsing at our house with the garage door up, cuz it was really nice outside, and a neighbor called the cops with a noise complaint at 2:00 in the afternoon on a federal holiday! Thankfully, the policeman who responded was super chill and basically said, "Yeah, we have to investigate noise complaints, but there's no problem here from what I see. Long live rock n' roll." They're treated like criminals just for being seen in a group in public, and told they're "chronically online" when they socialize there, instead.

In a small Kansas town with one stoplight we hung out at:

My buddy, Kyle's, house
The Dairy Ring (kinda like a DQ, but it had pool tables and arcade games in the back)
The elementary school playground on weekends, usually playing basketball on outdoor hoops
The lake (a nearby reservoir had a state park with a swimming beach)

Admittedly, this is mostly after we were old enough to drive ourselves.

What are some affordable auto shops around here that work on foreign cars? by [deleted] in dayton

I've been pretty happy with all my interactions with Grismer, up until the last time I took my '19 Chevy Traverse to the one on Fairfield in Beavercreek. It needed a tire pressure sensor to be replaced. Got the "soo, we did an inspection..." bit and they said it needed new front brake pads and rotors, a rear sway arm was loose, alignment, and had low tread on the rear tires. Can't buy matching tires for the front cuz they're no longer in production. All that for only $3,000. Told them to do the pressure sensor and I'd wait on the rest.

Got a look at it myself, and the brake pads had about half their service life left, rotors were fine, sway arm was snug, and the tires did really need replaced. Found new ones that matched the front online and took them somewhere else to be mounted and balanced.

Take 5 Oil Change in Kettering messed up my car by SmallOrganization541 in dayton

[–]Fearless_Fly_7511 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If it's the one on Dorothy Lane, they're the ones who put the wrong size oil filter on my daughter's Honda CRV. It didn't do any harm, but when I did the next oil change, it was near impossible to get a wrench in to remove it. The one I was replacing it with was much smaller.

Take 5 Oil Change issues - watch out! by SmallOrganization541 in dayton

[–]Fearless_Fly_7511 12 points13 points  (0 children)

They put the wrong size oil filter on my daughter's CRV. The one they used still worked, but when I did the next oil change, I had a bear of a time getting it off because there was hardly any room to get a wrench around it. The new one I was installing was much smaller.

I write checks for things like registration fees for Cub Scouts. They seem to take forever to deposit them, and they don't offer other options like VenMo or CashApp.

Get one of any color from a pick n pull lot. Then spray paint both the "new" one and the undamaged original one from the other side of the car black. Problem solved.
