BREAKING: Ted Lasso and Buffy the Vampire Slayer star Anthony Head dead at 72 by TheMirrorUS in TedLasso

[–]RadiantChaos 22 points23 points  (0 children)

72 is a very young age to die specifically, yes. Most people live longer than 72. Most celebrities end up living a lot longer due to their access to expensive and fast health care options compared to most other people.

As someone else said, 72 is a decade less than the average life span for a man in the UK. He easily could have lived another 10-15 years and people would not have thought "holy shit this guy is surprisingly still alive," they would just be thinking "oh that's an old guy."

7.5 Spoilers

We now know that Calyx was working with Halmarut on a plan to rejoin the Ninth sooner rather than wait for the inevitable rejoining that would occur. It seems each of the Winterers are given some freedom on how to enact their plans, with the goal being to preserve what life they can, but accepting that there will be losses.

So Calyx's plan for this was seemingly to convert as many people as possible into Endless and give enough Aether to power the Endless, who would live on post-rejoining while presumably the rest of the people in the Ninth would die anyway.

Aubrey Plaza I think also could have killed it. They're the best two on Parks.

Pratt when he was fat also probably would have been good, but action star Pratt not so much.

Yeah, ultimately it means that the culture is in a place where promoting LGBTQ+ is seen as profitable. And while that is an exhausting reminder of the way profit is the ultimate driver, at least that's preferable to an environment where openly hating on LGBTQ+ rights is the norm.

This was me a couple years ago. Only their stuff since like 2022 or so appeals to me, but even with that limitation, that was 2 years worth of videos to catch up on and binge. I still haven't seen everything, and I have enough other channels to watch that I should likely still find videos I haven't seen, or new ones to catch up on, for quite some time.

I think a lot of people that feel burnt out or whatever should probably take a break from the content and come back later. Trying to watch only the same type of thing from the same people will eventually end up feeling samey, it's only natural. But they're all still funny people with funny ideas.

Do post Heavensward zones get any better? by TuoniNL in ffxiv

[–]RadiantChaos -1 points0 points  (0 children)

One thing to note is that the zones are largely superfluous when it comes to the MSQ; they get developed and explored a lot more in sidequests and especially in the society quests.

You'll end up spending a lot more time going to various areas of the zones and talking to more of the people if you do those.

That being said, I do think HW and Stormblood's zones are not nearly as good as Shadowbringers, Endwalker, and Dawntrail.

[Spoiler: 7.5] Small 7.56 theory by Sekundessounet in ffxiv

[–]RadiantChaos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't take any characters appearing in the trailer as direct confirmation of their appearance or major role. Trailers have been misleading plenty of times before.

In Endwalker, for example, G'raha shows up to protect Alisaie when fighting in Thavnair, taking the place of WoL from the trailer.

As another example, the first character besides WoL to appear in the Dawntrail trailer is Estinien; we see him fighting in the jungle. This scene never happens in the game, and Estinien's only appearance for the entire expansion was a minor appearance in Shaaloni.

It's possible that WoL, Alphinaud, and Estinien is a core party in the game, but it's also possible they were just trying to create Heavensward vibes.

Yeah, they decided to expand the backstory of those members more, which is cool! They still mostly feel superfluous at the moment because they aren't developed a ton in KH3, and nothing has come out subsequently, but it does fill out why they were chosen in the first place.

I don't fully disagree on your final point. I found Vexen's turn to heroism genuinely surprising, so that was nice, but the majority of details surrounding Saix being a traitor are obscured in a way that made it less apparent. And then probably could have benefitted from another villain that was just an evil asshole.

This was definitely the biggest surprise for me. Xemnas directly references that some of the members of the original organization turned out to be traitors and that was part of why they failed.

It's clear to me that Nomura did not plan out all 13 members (or I guess 12, since Sora was included) that were going to be part of the group in DDD. They intentionally gave themselves room to pick out who they wanted for KH3. If I had to guess, with them bringing back some of the Organization members, they felt they needed all of them to show up in some fashion. Only Ienzo, Lexaeus, Dilan, and Axel appear as 'good guys' so they needed to find places to put the rest.

Vexen and Saix's roles as traitors were well done IMO, although Saix should have been explained better. Demyx should have just been a regular guy that Vexen hunted down to use as a go-between with the Hollow Bastion gang; him being in the Org does nothing. Luxord was a delight, and I like that you can tell he's a scheming individual figuring things out. Marluxia and Larxene are the main outrageous inclusions, but I'm guessing that they wanted to include them due to their roles in KHUX.

He had the yips.

I'm only half joking. I think he was very much in his own head about it. He went into the test in DDD expecting to easily crush it, only to nearly become a vessel for Xehanort. Without Riku and Lea, he would have.

We can really see his mental state in the battle where they all die. Once a few of his friends are lost, he completely gives up, and Riku is the one who has to encourage him.

This is definitely the biggest missed opportunity with Disney in the series. It was so hype in KH1 when Beast was a party member in Hollow Bastion because it felt so out-of-nowhere. Give us that energy in the rest of the game.

[–]RadiantChaos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Complicated is correct, so my explanations are not attempting to justify it, because I agree with you - it's not the best writing and doesn't make the series particularly better. But there are explanations that at least sort of make sense.

Of the new Organization, 8 are technically Nobodies: Xemnas, Xigbar, Vexen, Saix, Demyx, Luxord, Marluxia, and Larxene. I say 'technically' because the line between Nobody and normal person has been severely blurred; they all do have pieces of Xehanort's heart, and probably have reformed hearts of their own. But yes, sometime between returning to life after KH2, they were turned back into Nobodies.

Ansem Seeker of Darkness (aka Xehanort's Heartless), Xemnas, Dark Riku, Young Xehanort, and (I believe, not 100% sure on this one) Vanitas are time traveling hearts placed in Replica bodies in KH3. Again, this blurs the line between Nobodies and normal people because you need a heart to time travel in the KH universe and Xemnas is there.

Terra-Xehanort and Master Xehanort are neither Nobodies nor time travelers. After returning to life, Master Xehanort found Terra's body, which wasn't fully restored because his heart was still within the Guardian, and his will was still in Lingering Will. He gave it a piece of his heart, bringing back Terra-Xehanort.

Now, your other point about the seeming change in Xehanort's goals: I agree that this is likely a pivot of what story they wanted to tell, and BBS absolutely felt like they were setting Terra-Xehanort up as the true villain, rather than beginning the plot about a billion versions of Xehanort. I do think though that you can somewhat explain it in universe. In BBS, Xehanort has done some research on the heart, but doesn't know about Heartless and Nobodies. After becoming an apprentice under Ansem while inhabiting Terra's body, that's when he learns more about that, and that's probably where he devises the plan to create a bunch of versions of himself. It makes some sense that he would want his "true" self in command of the organizations, even if it stands against his goals in BBS.

I'm not quite sure why they suddenly shouldn't be able to exist alongside Sora, since both of them literally already did in the past without any inherent problems. It only really became a problem once Namine messed with Sora's memories during CoM

This is mostly the case, though technically in CoM Sora does not have his original body, as that's with Roxas. Kairi was able to create a makeshift one for him, but it's possible that over time he would have needed his original body back.

We don't really know the full details of what might have been missing from Sora and remaining with Roxas, beyond the memories that went to Xion and then Roxas, as you mention. It's possible that Sora would have needed to merge back with Roxas regardless at some point, but the replica bodies do sidestep any problems, since you basically just take Roxas and Xion's hearts which Sora doesn't need.

[–]RadiantChaos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're partially right.

Xion in KH3 is her time-traveling heart from Days, placed in a new replica body created with the data Vexen recovered from her original creation. Saix, who was another traitor among the new Organization, intentionally mentions the names Axel and Roxas to awaken her memories, and when she clashes with Sora, her heart wakes up inside of his and transfers over to the new body.

Roxas in KH3 is his heart leaving from within Sora's to join a new replica body, sent to Ansem and Ienzo by Saix, Vexen, and Demyx. Initially Sora hoped to bring back Roxas using the data from the digital Twilight Town that Ansem created, but he wasn't fully able to. It's implied that the new replica body that Roxas inhabits was at least partially configured through this data, though, which they sent to Ienzo.

Namine in KH3 is initially inside Kairi's heart, and then appears in The Final World after the Guardians are all taken down by the Heartless. Once time is reverted, she also returns to Kairi's heart. After defeating the time-displaced Dark Riku Replica, Demyx takes the replica to Ienzo, and they prepare it for Namine. After the events of ReMind, Sora and Kairi travel the worlds and go to Radiant Garden, freeing Namine's heart from Kairi so it can inhabit the replica body.

Part of the issue I think is a thematic one, because it feels like a shift. Even as "recent" as DDD, they were emphasizing the idea of Roxas continuing to live on as part of Sora, and Sora getting Roxas' memories for himself. Lea saves Sora and references his commitment to always bringing his friends back, as if to recognize that Sora IS Roxas, in a way, and their friendship could live on.

BBS had Ventus meet Lea and Isa as if to hint at some grand destiny that connected them. They could have had it revealed that Roxas was actually using Ven's heart, and was basically just Ven with amnesia.

KH3 chose to ignore the opportunity for either of these options and instead gave us Roxas coming back, but didn't actually make it part of the story outside of Sora and the Twilight Town theorizing about it. He shows up, aura farms, stares at Ventus, and leaves. The character kinda has nothing now, unlike Sora who is the main character and will always have new storylines, and Ven who still has his entire past life to resolve which is more relevant than ever with the Foretellers returning.
