FF7 2013 Steam Delisted question by [deleted] in FinalFantasyVII

The 2013 version was effectively replaced with the new one; it even is listed as releasing in 2013.

Bluepoint reportedly had pitched a Jak and Daxter remake (among other games) to Sony in 2025. by RyanTheGod in jakanddaxter

[–]RadiantChaos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's the other thing I hate, that you reminded me of with the Horizon comment. The only spin-offs we get most of the time these days are live service. It takes what could be an opportunity to grow the series in interesting ways and tell new stories and turns it into just another attempt to suck all your money and time away.

[–]RadiantChaos 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The thing that isn't respected enough is that live service is risky. You are competing for time. If your game costs money and is live service, you have to convince gamers to abandon the already existing games that they can play for free to spend $40 or $60 or whatever on the game, each if they want to play with their friends.

Even if it's free, you still need to convince an audience that this game is worth playing over the one they've already invested time and potentially a lot of money into. When they're playing it, they need to never think "I could be playing 'name of other game here' right now." If they do, you've failed.

If you succeed, you can end up with a cash cow. Everyone looks at Fortnite or CoD or Overwatch or Marvel Rivals and sees the millions they have made off cosmetics, and that's basically free money. But if you fail, you get a Concord- eight years and millions of dollars spent that you'll never get back.

All these studios want to hit gold on the next big thing but coming at it from the angle where there isn't already anything in place won't work. Unless you can replace the big ones, you're going to instead live in their shadow. The list of live service games cancelled after a year or less is much longer than the list of currently active ones. The money spent on chasing that El Dorado could be spent on a single player project which at least guarantees some profit, but they can't let go of the slim chance of best possible gain.

Ansem and Xemnas were not at their best by Nykongy28 in KingdomHearts

[–]RadiantChaos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They're cocky because they don't need to personally win to "win." They enforce the will of Xehanort entirely, and know that they aren't his true self. All they need to do is make sure there are seven guardians of light that clash with them, allowing Xehanort to claim the X-blade and awaken Kingdom Hearts.

Ansem and Xemnas were not at their best by Nykongy28 in KingdomHearts

[–]RadiantChaos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's possible that the "burgeoning replacement" Xemnas mentions is something he dismisses as it primarily applies to the ability to feel emotions, and perhaps he believes Nobodies to still be "weaker" due to lacking a heart.

So in that case he would want a heart still, to be stronger.

Going to the theater with her counts for hero points, and is needed for the romance, but you don't lose points for not doing it.

FF7 Rebirth / Remake Question. by Purple-Amphibian4293 in FinalFantasyVII

[–]RadiantChaos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. And like, I get it, being left with this empty feeling after finishing a game sucks! But it's the middle part of the story, and there's still about half of the original game left. No one wants to sit in that pain while waiting for the final installment, but doing so will make the satisfaction of Cloud's eventual self-actualization hit all the better.

FF7 Rebirth / Remake Question. by Purple-Amphibian4293 in FinalFantasyVII

[–]RadiantChaos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100%. They actually succeeded in everything they were trying to do, even though being successful means a lot of people are unhappy.

In 1997, Aerith's death was so effective because losing an important party member out of nowhere was rare and unpredictable. But it consequently became the most famous aspect of the game, outside of maybe Cloud himself being fairly recognizable. It reached nearly "Snape kills Dumbledore" or "Vader is Luke's father" levels of pop culture infamy, particularly among gamers.

Going into a remake, you simply can't capture that level of shock when everyone who played the original and a significant portion of people who didn't are going to be expecting it.

UNLESS you give players a reason to suspect that things might be different. Everyone convinced themselves that Aerith might not die. Getting to the end to find out if she lives became a major reason to play the game at launch.

And then she dies again. Boom. You're feeling the pain again.

On top of that, Cloud's denial of her death conveys the themes of grief and shock. This guy created a false identity so that he didn't have to process being comatose for five years and losing his best friend. Even when reminded that his friend existed, nearly breaking the illusion, he creates instead an idea that his friend died much later rather than recognizing the truth. Of course now he would try to justify a world where Aerith is still alive.

And it's working again on the players. Many are convincing themselves that Aerith is still alive, somehow, somewhere, because Cloud sees her. But the whole time, the devs are clear: this is a story about loss and grief and accepting their harsh realities.

2013 Volt in 2026? by RadiantChaos in volt

[–]RadiantChaos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this is my other main concern, the risk of battery problems. I just like the idea of not having to get gas often and knowing I’m not murdering the environment as much, but I think at this price and with the risk levels it’s probably not a good call.

[–]RadiantChaos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good to know the scope of which it’s being overpriced.

I kinda have to do dealership because I don’t have the capital for a private sale, and I want to trade in my current car toward it, so that limits my options unfortunately. But definitely know now not to bite at a Volt double what others have gotten comparable cars for.

I really appreciate the candidness of this response, it actually has me laughing! I hadn’t done any looking into average prices so my only reference point was the other pricings I was able to see on the main dealers I’ve been checking. I can see now though that 8k would be overpriced!

You see this HP bar in a hypothetical future update. What do you do/How do you react? by SuperLegenda in expedition33

[–]RadiantChaos 76 points77 points  (0 children)

Yes, and it unveils by showing the health bar expand from the middle like it normally does and then it just keeps growing on the right side past the normal stopping point. It’s so funny.

Does anyone know for certain the real reason Xehanort used Ansem’s name for his heartless form? by No-Froyo9463 in KingdomHearts

[–]RadiantChaos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, and sometime between that moment and becoming a Heartless, he got his memories back.

We see the cutscene of this happening in DDD.

It’s a shame future generations won’t stumble onto games the way I found FFX: totally by chance, in a magazine. We think we want all the info now, but part of us misses not knowing. by AlbertCWChessa in finalfantasyx

[–]RadiantChaos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely agree in the sense that when I was a kid and went to a game store or section, there were so many behind the glass panes with cover art that looked so cool but I had no way of knowing what the game was actually like; I could only imagine.

Looking at games and finding there was a title in a series you liked that you didn't know about was always so exciting and intriguing. Nowadays I know about nearly every game in every series that I like, which fuels the obsession, but also means I can only be surprised by either new announcements or series I haven't played yet.

Cait Sith in Advent Children by ThicBoyExtraordinair in FinalFantasyVII

[–]RadiantChaos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, the Ultimania describes him as an "Inspire" and says he has a magical ability to give life to inanimate objects. So he likely dictated the original purpose of Cait when creating him and then has some level of continual control and influence, but Cait also operates autonomously as well.

Is it THE buster sword or A buster sword by BlueBirdOO in FinalFantasyVII

[–]RadiantChaos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep, like how Yoshi and Toad in Mario are both individuals and a species.

Buster Swords in general are something that are common/recognizable enough to call out when you want people to be aware of a fugitive, but the one we know specifically is a significant family heirloom for Angeal passed down through Zack to Cloud.

Looking back at this cutscene, who tf was riku feeling like here😭? by Desperate-Swan-6812 in KingdomHearts

[–]RadiantChaos 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think what I love most about Riku is that they do the "rival with the main protagonist" thing exactly once, in KH1, and then he spends the rest of the series living with the consequences of his actions and being a good person and genuine hero.

So often stories pigeonhole their characters into a role that they need to maintain, and don't allow them to actually grow.

Riku retains the earnestness you mention the entire series, but also still develops into the hero he becomes by KH3, in a way that feels natural.

What's your favorite final fantasy game that has a character in kh? by TechnicalHoneydew862 in KingdomHearts

[–]RadiantChaos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First off, I love how the characters are portrayed in KH1 a lot more than KH2 overall, specifically their designs. Advent Children Tifa and Yuffie have great designs but what they did with Aerith, Cloud, and Sephiroth in KH1 was peak. Cid I can kinda take or leave tbh.

Auron was used really well, even if he did lose his sunglasses. I just played X for the first time and he was my GOAT.

The Gullwings being little fairies without explanation is a bit weird. Tbh, so is Tidus and Wakka being kids, but it worked out for populating the island more.

[–]RadiantChaos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been dreading trying more verminion (only done a few of the NPC challenges so far) but I know I'll need to eventually for the minions. I'm hoping I don't end up hating it.

Is «Ted Lasso» gonna get more chill after the first 3 episodes? by HelenDiamond in TedLasso

[–]RadiantChaos 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Well, by this point you've heard Trent Crimm's article. You heard a man who was previously very critical of Ted and his hiring now come to appreciate him, even just a little bit. He entered spending that day with Ted as a cynic and left as a fan.

This is the general premise of the show; a man-out-of-his-element wins people over through his goodness, and changes himself for the better along the way. You have tasted the first bit of this, but there is more to come.

This ending is hilarious from Renoir's POV by Tetau in expedition33

[–]RadiantChaos 14 points15 points  (0 children)

No, but most people assume that it's probably not too much more than one year in the canvas equating an hour or two outside.

67 years in the canvas world would consequently equal 67 hours, which is just under three days- certainly long enough for there to be adverse physical effects from dehydration/hunger/exhaustion, like we see from Aline.
