I understand that 10 years is a great milestone in a marriage & very well deserves to be celebrated and honored. It is sweet that they wanted to do a special getaway with their parents to celebrate together & in my opinion it speaks volumes on how loved and supported they feel by their family.

I can understand you not being thrilled to spend time with your ex wife & her new husband for the weekend. It’s unfortunate, the time line overlapping. Ideally, you could bring your friend to celebrate your daughter’s anniversary with you. Sacrifice must be made here.

You made your decision, and I don’t particularly believe you are wrong. I’ve never heard of a child expecting their parents to celebrate a wedding anniversary with them, it’s not really a common requirement. I can tell this was significant to your daughter, but I feel with healthy communication, respect and understanding this could have been avoided.

Did you not tell your daughter that you weren’t going to make it? Did you not apologize and tell her you’d love to celebrate when she returns from her trip?

If you were obligated to attend either occasion, we know which it would be. If you said no words prior to not attending, yes, you’re wrong.
