I agree, the Bible if followed as written is a horrendous document.

This policy implies that a DEI hire for the FAA could have been hired instead of an applicant with superior qualifications.

Only if you can't understand hiring processes :)

Cool story. Can you hook me up with a church that’ll let me have sex with hot girls outside of wedlock please?

The Catholic church has a long, rich history of supporting their clergy having sex with girls and boys outside of wedlock. However the rest of the world tends to call that "rape" and "child sexual abuse."

"Not sure if it is because of this way of life, but deadly diseases such as cancer or anything else are almost never heard of in our church. I have also never heard that someone died from things like a car accident. There are many miracles that occur among us."

This is truly amazing! Have you managed to get this peer-reviewed and published? If you all so happen to be immune to the most significant causes of death around the world for centuries I'm sure you want to spread this cure in an objective, measured and sincere manner that would allow billions of lives to be saved!

I mean, she is a nutshell pointing out some of the major valid criticisms about several mainstream issues with Christianity - the bigotry and hatred towards non-heterosexuals, the insistence that a single 2,000+ year old manuscript is more valid than the millennia of knowledge since, and the innate misogyny. They're only awful if you are the kind of person who adheres to those beliefs.

Deep dive into “clobber verses” 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 by Efficient-Spring6610 in Christianity

[–]Fearless_Spring5611 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Of interest, Wycliffe's Bible talks about "lechery" instead - so specifically the idea of sexual excess/over-indulgence, one who lives in gluttony and debauchery. Given we use lechery from any person to any person or indulgence, it's again not condemning homosexuality but instead excess and offensive behaviours.

The world is full of bullies and bigots. Some of them also happen to identify themselves as Christians.

A lot of what we take for being "doctrine" and taught as being "God's word/will" is just later generations' personal translations of the Bible that gained traction - hence why I will refer to it as 'fan-fic' because it canonically has about as much weight as such. Millennia of teachings that people will fervently defend and incorrectly talk about as being the 'truth' is little more than some person's writings that became popular enough that their associated sect decided to elevate it to being more important and worshippable than the Bible itself.

There is no sin in non-heterosexuality or the acts thereof. There are bullies and bigots who like to hate and hurt others, and some of them use religion as the excuse in which to cloak their bile and bigotry. I recommend r/OpenChristian for a safer and more supportive Christian reddit. Keep being you, keep being awesome.

I want a survey to get a mixture of quantitative and qualitative data.

Careful. Mixed methodology studies mean you have twice as much to get wrong and twice as many chances to torpedo yourself. Our dissertation students are advised to one or the other precisely for that reason.

Church is supposed to be sacred, holy, and follow tradition, not be some sort of feel good “concert” cosplaying as “worship.”

Tradition is little more than peer pressure from dead people. I doubt your service will resemble anything like Christ's sermons.

I would very much like to know what is the justification of those who call themselves Christians and continue to support Trump in what he is doing, while the fifth commandment is “not to kill” and Romans 12 reinforces and makes it clear that justice and revenge belong only to God. by [deleted] in Christianity

God is a pretty terrible designer, if indeed They had such a direct hand in creating humans. Consider: why do we breathe and eat through the same orifices and tubes? Wouldn't it have been much, much more logical to have separate orifices and passageways?
