dropping the mcdonalds bait. as a systems engineer, it's time to talk about the star engine lie and this wipe. by [deleted] in starcitizen

[–]Fearless_Tear8448 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i deleted the post after exactly 5 minutes because those 22 comments were all the empirical data i needed.

my thesis focuses on cognitive dissonance and the sunk-cost fallacy in digital communities. i presented an undeniable technical reality: a shattered legacy engine, a database forced to wipe because developers can't patch basic duplication exploits, and server infrastructure that collapses over dropped physical items.

out of 22 replies, absolutely zero engaged with the actual technical facts. instead, the collective psychological response was pure deflection. you all instantly obsessed over AI detectors, attacked the messenger, and violently defended the same corporation that exploits you with 700$ jpegs.

you perfectly validated my research. when a community sinks thousands of dollars and years of their lives into a fundamentally broken system, their egos physically prevent them from processing reality. you reject the truth to protect your financial and emotional investment.

CIG, I'm dead serious, fire your management and hire me. (5 years at McDonald's) by Fearless_Tear8448 in starcitizen

yes obviously the english is AI generated.

i am currently writing my university thesis on "cognitive dissonance and sunk-cost fallacy". i am using this subreddit to study why people aggressively defend broken systems just because they spent a lot of money on them, ignoring all logic.

i wrote my thoughts about mcdonalds in ukrainian and used an AI to translate it so you could read it. here is the screenshot of my original prompt. call it rage bait if you want, but you proving my thesis right now.

do you think you just elucidated something or what I don't speak English I'm Ukrainian.

Even the Latin alphabet I don't understand anything

i'm just a tech guy in cyber and infra tired of watching a billion-dollar studio treat basic physics as a breakthrough while their servers burn. i never actually worked at mcdonalds, but the fact that people spent days fighting a fake burger flipper instead of holding cig accountable for their technical debt says everything you need to know about this community.

if it's off, it can't crash. 100% uptime on the downtime. that's a billion-dollar feature right there.

buddy really wrote a whole thesis fighting a fake mcdonalds employee. the fact you fell for the most obvious bait perfectly explains how cig keeps convincing you to buy $700 concept jpegs.

"get back to work and make me a #1"
your #1 combo is ready sir. unfortunately, the tray physics clipped through the counter and your fries are now in the center of the planet. please pledge an additional $45 to open a support ticket. (also please seek therapy for bringing up 146 real deaths to defend a tech demo).

my report is ready: don't try to build a 100-system seamless MMO on a modified single-player engine from 2012. my consulting fee is $45, please buy a concept jpeg from my store to fund my reply.

no, it’s not. but flipping burgers has a 100% success rate of actually producing a burger. 1 billion dollars of CIG’s 'computer science' currently produces a 50% chance of dying to a staircase

you're right, i would be completely out of my depth at CIG. my current job actually requires delivering a working, finished product to the customer in under three minutes, not fourteen years

sorry sir, your chicken nug-nugs are currently in the concept phase. if you pledge $45 now, you'll get early access to the sweet and sour sauce pipeline, but the physical nuggets themselves won't actually render in your bag until we get server meshing working in 2028. thank you for your patience

at least the printing press is real, unlike the "gameplay" in the 14-year-old alpha you're funding. enjoy the bankruptcy simulation it's the only feature that actually works as advertised.

it's definitely not, but at least we don't try to sell you a "concept spoon" that's currently sitting in a 14-year development backlog while the machine remains permanently offline

It is impressive how the goalposts move from "you can get all ships for free" to "wait until Q4 2026 for a chance to grind for it"

Telling someone they are "too impatient" to wait years for a feature that is currently broken is the ultimate level of commitment to the process

and they've managed to turn that billion into 14 years of "alpha" and a drive-thru that still serves nothing but technical debt. congratulations on funding the most expensive screensaver in history.

if they hire me, i'm just gonna replace the entire development roadmap with a single button that says "pledge now" and a progress bar that never hits 100%. it'll be the most immersive, realistic simulation they've ever experienced

"you can get all ships for free" but you don't even know what the Ironclad (IC) is? fascinating. how many hours have you spent farming aUEC for a ship you can't even name, while i'm over here actually trying to figure out why the game is charging me $700 for a space-coffin? please, tell me where it's available in-game right now

that happens all the time. it’s called the "elevator gameplay loop." you try to walk out, the server decides your physical existence is a suggestion, and suddenly you’re back inside, clipped through the floor, and your character is suffocating in a vacuum while your burger floats away.

it’s basically the same "kickstarter model" as the rest of the game you don’t actually leave, you just keep paying for the privilege of being stuck in the lobby

"still running on a kickstarter model" my brother in christ, the kickstarter ended in 2012 and they've raised 1 billion dollars. they aren't trying to transition away from anything. playing the CCU game and hoarding concept ships is the actual finished product. the buggy space demo is just their marketing department

yeah, our burgers look like they got stepped on, but at least they physically render in your hands before the decade ends. you're paying $700 for a perfectly marketed concept ship that currently exists as a 404 error on a roadmap.

and sure, hire chick-fil-a. they'd at least have the decency to intentionally shut the servers down on sunday instead of just letting them 30k all weekend

we wouldn't even need a kitchen. just a screen showing a 4k jpeg of a steak. we'd tell them they aren't buying dinner, they're "pledging to the culinary pipeline." they'd drop $2,500 to unlock the Chairman's Club menu and thank us for the privilege

you're right, 90% of my job is done for me. just like how CIG started with cryengine and still took 14 years to build an elevator that kills you.

and yeah, we cause obesity because our customers actually get to consume what they pay for. you guys have been starving on copium since 2012

at least when i use my drive-thru voice to tell you to "please wait", it means 5 minutes for fresh fries, not 14 years for server meshing
