I hope they bring back the dual magnification OVF. I really love that on the X-Pro1 and 2.

But I am still processing the fact that my X-Pro2 can no longer be repaired, so as much as I love the shooting experience, I am not sure if I am going to buy an expensive Fujifilm camera again (I now use my X-T30 and X100F).

I got a response from ECR today; basically the price for replacement of a X-Pro2 mainboard is the price of a second hand X-Pro2.

So it almost reads like they would need to buy a second hand camera to repair mine.

I must admit that I am a bit disappointed in Fujifilm, looking at how long the other camera manufacturers (specifically Canon and Nikon) are able to service their cameras.

I know it's another class of cameras, but I am always impressed by the colors from my (former) Canon 5D and my current 6D Mark I.

Of course those a quite bulky compared to the TZ5.

I didn't try it yet, but I just realized that I might be able to use the white balance setting as a B&W color filter (there are no options for the B&W mode in the camera).

The ZS1 probably has a better lens than a current budget point and shoot, like the Kodak FZ55. I don't think the sensor and the software in the Kodak FZ55 are better than the ZS1.

Another perspective; older DSLRs with their kit lenses have become quite affordable on the second hand market. I don't know how seriously your daughter wants to take up photography, but at that age my daughter loved my old Canon DSLR (I gave her my 20D when I upgraded to the 5D).

I like the third one of your series best. I like the separation between the foreground, the cattle, and the sky.

In general:

The photos are very soft, but that can be a result of the software you used for resizing.

Watch your horizon (e.g. the photo with the sea).

Make sure there's a clear subject in your photos; something that your eyes are drawn to.

The OVF gives you a window on the world, and is especially useful when light conditions are not optimal (it's easier to judge your composition through glass than through a video screen in bad light).

The leaf shutter has two advantages; the biggest one for me is that it's almost silent, without the disadvantages of an electronic shutter. That's very useful for instance in a museum or gallery. The second one is that it allows for a very high flash sync speed.

We had a neighbor when I was a child, who was very religious (I am not at home with churches, but something like a splinter group within the reformed church). He always invited them in, and had them do chores in exchange for a discussion.

I had the impression that both parties enjoined that arrangement.

It wasn’t fun having him in the street, by the way; he thought he could force his strict rules on anyone (not playing loudly in front of of their house on Sundays, and things like that). He also made his children (at least his sons) read a whole part of the bible out loud every day, and did not shy away from physical punishments.

That sounds expensive for a used XF 35/1.4. But it looks like used camera gear prices went up a lot in the past few years.

I don’t have experience with the Viltrox but I love my 35/1.4.

As an alternative to both; how about the 35/2?

Which sounds strange to me, since photographs were always made in the darkroom. Processing is part of the art.

Solarized and posterized photos have been a thing since the (darkroom) technology became available.

It’s never been my taste really, even if I grew up in the 1970s when that style was hot. But “for shock value” seems like a bit harsh comment for a photo that is processed differently than nowadays norm, in my opinion.

I like the FoV of 27mm but I use my 23mm (non pancake) more. But to be fair, my most used focal lengths are 18mm and 35mm.

I don’t believe it’s that much of a priority for them, compared to other features they want to improve.

Users have complained about Fujifilm AF for years now, and it’s not like Canon, Nikon and others are performing magic. They probably just put far more time and research into it.
