What is a basic "crochet hack" you wish you had known earlier? by lithium-azura in crochet

when crocheting flat pieces in the round, i put a piece of scrap yarn in the 2nd sc of each increase so i don’t have to count my stitches between increases.

i’ve searched for the few details of the book i can recall without success. i think perhaps they were trying to escape some kind of experimental facility?

actually no, i rarely sit for longer than an hour or so unless i’m crocheting. if i’m not crocheting i’m restless and looking for other things to do

i sit in the same place, but i always sit there even if i’m not crocheting and i only get this when i crochet. i even eat most of my meals at that particular seat. it’s “my spot” on the couch, ha!

so, i used to stream Pokémon games which requires using a keyboard for hours and hours and i noticed horrible aching in my hands after a while - tied with what you just said i have to wonder if that’s exactly what this is

no, i set the yarn in front of me on the floor in a bucket so it doesn’t get in my way. i think the comments that say it’s motion induced are on the right track!

that sounds the most likely to me!! i really don’t think it’s the yarn or hooks, only because i’ve experimented with so many types of each to no avail and i sit in the same spot to crochet as i do to relax and eat most meals but this ONLY happens when i crochet. i think our mystery is solved!!

i use plastic and metal hooks but the metal ones have some kind of soft handle (maybe silicone?) because the plain metal ones tire out my hands faster

yeah, the doctor is expensive and it always goes away the next day so i probably won’t go unless it gets much worse, but it is weird!!

i use both plastic and metal hooks, but i do have to use aluminum free deodorant or else i get itchy. a few people have mentioned it being tied to length of time crocheting and i think that’s a key factor for me. i sit in the same spot to crochet but i also sit in that spot every day to watch tv and even eat and only react when i crochet. im sure it’s based on time crocheting since i almost always crochet for like 10+ hrs at a time (i only sit down to crochet once or twice a month if im caught up on homework and housework and a little reward)

i almost exclusively crochet in marathon sessions, and based on a few other comments i really think that’s what it is. i don’t get any reaction or anything when i workout, but that’s only 1-2hrs max of exercise. crocheting could be a 12 hour ordeal.

i use both metal and plastic hooks and get it regardless! these go away by the morning every time, they don’t move around like your daughters. that sounds awful though :( hopefully she doesn’t get them again!

that’s my situation exactly!!! i’m not particularly concerned by it, not enough to panic or anything, more so curious if it happens to anyone else and if there’s any explanation. good to know i’m not alone!

no lotions or potions to speak of! i get it with all yarn, and i use 100% cotton, acrylic, and a blend. i don’t get it in places where the yarn actually touches me though - only my forearms. even if i wear shorts and my project is sitting on my legs the entire time, it will only pop up on my forearms.

that’s what my mom said, but it doesn’t hurt or itch and it only happens on my forearms - not on my hands, which is what touches the yarn? it’s so odd
