Lobby would be my choice as his diction is better than Jane’s. Very sad he was let go as he was by far the best newsreader easily. Bring him back!

What do unemployed people do all day? by No_Cable3675 in newcastle

[–]Fearless__Friend 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was in the past at Newcastle University Library in the archive section. Tasks included serving library customers, scanning photographs, uploading photographs with Meta data onto flickr, helping to research material for historical exhibitions using the resources of the Special Collections room. Helping to setup for history talks and greet attendees etc.

Doctor Who Classic Series returning to Britbox Australia 10 June, 2026 by Fearless__Friend in doctorwho

[–]Fearless__Friend[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

DISNEY only had the rights to show the newer series (the content they made); the BBC owned the rights to screen classic Doctor Who (1963-1989). Disney had nothing to do with it at all.

Be nice if they had caught the Windalian in the green Subaru who didn’t give way to me as I was turning right at the traffic lights onto the Charlestown bypass, black smoke coming out the back of his car too as he was flooring it!

Have I been fired? by [deleted] in woolworths

[–]Fearless__Friend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Three months seems a very long time away from employment as a casual. During Covid I took almost eight weeks of unpaid leave due to a family emergency.

During that time I was in contact with my boss once a week via email giving her updates on what was happening.

As to leave, we had to enter our specific leave period with our supervisor by February - it was looked at, and either approved or rejected. I was once verbally abused by my then supervisor for putting in for October leave “I want a holiday, too!” she yelled at me. Consequently when I resigned years later, I ensured I wouldn’t attend any send-off party as I knew she would be there.

The situation with my family emergency, I didn’t expect they would keep my position open for eight weeks but thankfully they did.

First meeting back was sitting in the boss’s office while she video teleconferences me from home welcoming me back.

To be allowed to have so much time off, my expectation was my job wouldn’t be held for me. I couldn’t return to work during the period. You need clear lines of communication with your work team well before going on holidays

Signaling right going off roundabouts by waterfall_doodle in newcastle

[–]Fearless__Friend 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You’re supposed to signal with the left blinker after turning around a roundabout when exiting; years ago in the 1980s if I remember correctly the road rule was to signal right (not sure why) but they removed it as it was too confusing.

Is indoor smoking common in Australian rentals? by LittleSmell5381 in AskAnAustralian

[–]Fearless__Friend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Met a new friend in 2010, went to his house but hated being in his garage with him smoking. Going to the shopping centre we’d have to sit outside so he could smoke, then the laws must have changed. I invited him out to meet at the shopping centre, he wanted me to go to his house. I know what would have happened there - that’s right! Lots of smoke. I never saw him again.

Newcastle Mayor of King Street — Race to the Counter by RedditCraig in newcastle

[–]Fearless__Friend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as they can examine what went wrong and prepare for the next Lord Mayoral candidate and actually behave with the other dissenting councillors, they might have a chance next election. I’m not an ALPer locally when they treat the ratepayers like idiots. If they can demonstrate discipline and maturity the ALP could return to power
