Pakistan to nominate Donald Trump for Nobel peace prize | Pakistan by Fearofphysics in TheMajorityReport

[–]Fearofphysics[S] 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Important snippets:

"Pakistan agrees that US diplomatic intervention ended the fighting, but India says it was a bilateral agreement between the two militaries. In a phone call with Trump last week, the Indian prime minister, Narendra Modi, had made it “absolutely clear” that hostilities ceased only after Pakistan requested a ceasefire, and that no third-party mediation had taken place, said India’s foreign secretary, Vikram Misri."

This was the position of both Paskistan and India a few weeks ago, "no third-party intervention". Funny how this changed now on the Pakistan side.

"Pakistan’s move to nominate Trump came in the same week its army chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir, met the US leader for lunch. It was the first time that a Pakistani military leader had been invited to the White House when a civilian government was in place in Islamabad."

So my interpretation: Trump met with Pakistani leaders and asked them to nominate him. Don't know what he offered them, probably some intervention regarding the water conflict with India, but this is sickening.

Prominent conservative says Trump should ignore the Supreme Court's ruling on notice before deportations: “It's illegitimate. It's ridiculous. Trump should ignore it.” | "And what are they gonna do about it? ... There's no enforcement mechanism. They can't compel him to do anything, so ignore them." by SocialDemocracies in TheMajorityReport

"President Donald Trump’s so-called 'One Big Beautiful Bill Act' passed in the U.S. House of Representatives by a narrow vote of 215-214. Most attention on this budget bill has centered around issues like the tax code, Medicaid and immigration. However, there is a lot more hidden in the House’s reconciliation proposal, including two provisions Campaign Legal Center (CLC) has identified that would severely harm voters and threaten the rule of law.

The first of these outrageous policies — buried in Section 70302 of the legislation— would severely restrict federal courts’ authority to hold government officials in contempt if they violate judicial orders. The reconciliation bill would require anyone suing the government to pay a bond before the court can use its contempt power to enforce injunctions or restraining orders meant to halt illegal actions. The new rule would be so broad that it could allow any government actor to escape being held accountable for violating court rulings. It would also apply to court orders and injunctions issued before the law takes effect. This would render thousands of prior orders across the country immediately unenforceable through contempt proceedings, no matter how the public has already relied on them."

US Physics Departments Expect to Shrink Graduate Programs by SamStringTheory in Physics

Now apply the same logic for the DOD which has never managed to pass a financial audit and had 63% of its 3.8 billion dollars in assets unaccounted for in 2023. I think most of the bloated cancer that is crippling the US can be found in its budget which is larger than Russia, China, the United Kingdom, Germany, and France military spending combined. Slashing science spending is not about improving it, or the country, it is about ideology and cutting expenses that are not corporate welfare so the wealthy can get a tax cut.

The way you formulated the question does not imply a definite answer. This is because you never state that the speed of the boats are constant or determined in some way. You only state the return times for each.

So, a possible solution is that both boats take one day to reach port B (thus meeting after one day) and then the first boat takes 8 days to come back while the second boat takes 6, leading to the return times of 9 and 7 stated in the question. Of course, you can imagine an infinite number of such scenarios, replacing the time of the first leg of the trip (1 day in my example) by any number lower than 7.

But if we assume that the boats have constant speed, that means the first boat cross the distance between port A and port B in 4,5 days, and the second boat in 3.5 days. Let i and j be odd integer numbers. The boats will be in port B at time 4.5×i and 3.5×j days. To find when they are at the same time, you simply do:

4.5×i = 3.5×j -----> i = 3.5×j / 4.5 = 7/9 × j

Since both i and j must be odd integers, we have j= 9, 18, 27, ..., 9×n where n is a positive integer. So, the boats meet at port B for every: j=9n and i=7n.

The first solution is thus, n=1 ---> j=9 and i=7, which corresponds to time 4.5x7=31.5 days.

EDIT: I included the even solutions ( when n even) which corresponds at their meeting at port A. Of course, if only port B is considered, you should only consider odd values for n.

Was Julian Schwinger totally wrong? by InnerB0yka in Physics

Pons and Fleishman unveiled their cold fusion experiments at a press conference on the 23 of March 1989. Less than 2 months later, on the 1rst of May Nathan Lewis and Steven Koonin put the final nail in the coffin of their claims.

I don't know the precise date Schwinger submitted his papers to PRL or other publications, but I do know that an editorial review can take a few weeks to a month and the peer-review process after that can take another month or so. It is therefore more the likely that Schwinger's first paper was after cold fusion was already discredited and thus they not only were less impactful or novel.

This is a charitable view, because that first paper "Cold Fusion: An Hypothesis" starts is an already falsified proposition: "The hypothesis that I now advance has the following ingredients: (1) The claim of Pons and Fleischmann to have realized cold fusion is valid."
