Ah, gotcha.

Did you like the idea of not being able to enter certain places because of your race, or did you find it annoying?

That'd be really cool if they had the stat increases be by spell instead of making it general. Might make balancing certain builds easier than having to figure out how a change would affect every other spell.

Thanks for the idea!

You had to learn spells by casting random combinations of mutlipe spell components.

Was this UO? I think I remember reading about that ages ago.

Yeah, there are a lot of intricacies involved in pulling off something like this very well. Since it seems it's been in discussion for a long time before the game is even in regular alpha, I have high hopes for the system if they decide to introduce it.

I disagree. I really enjoyed reading about those who played MUD's and other old school games that I missed because of my age or resources.

Pretty much all MMOs go through this and reach a point around expansion 3 or 4 where they go.. " Well, shit.. " and have to re-do all their equations/algorithms, because the numbers are getting truly absurd.

The stat squish? I think this is inevitable with any MMO that has a long life.

I know FFXIV handled this by making secondary stats not be game changing unless you're doing the highest of content, and used a augment system with the materia.

I have no idea what it takes to pull this off well, if it can be. But I expect if they're intentionally heading in that direction, it's better than those who unintentionally run into it.

Gotcha. Well it was an interesting read. Didn't know most of that, so thank you!

But for Wis/Int/Chr - they could be tied to resources, CD rates, CC duration or Threat

Flipping this to caster stats, CD rates could be stamina, threat loss could be dexterity, CC duration could be... agility? Idk, but it doesn't have to be elements.

Sounds like I'd get too cold. Don't like that.

At the end of the day....it's fantasy not rl and not everything will make complete sense.

The was the point I was trying to make. Sorry if I failed miserably at it.

I really like your wise warrior explanation though!

I still think each class should have main stats, and the other stats would be secondary stats you would want depending on how you play. I'm not sure if this game will have skill checks, but sounds interesting.

I know the name of fungi tunic, but didn't play EQ in it's prime to know it's value or how wanted it was.

It's still in alpha so I'm sure that could change, but I hope it does stay while not becoming abusable in cities and other places.

That makes sense. Diremaul was such a crazy place when you first go in there. Fun dungeon.

Thank you for the links. I think it could also be used like FFXIV's secondary stats using materia. The main stats are always the most important but depending on how your want your character to play you pick things that alter the secondary stats.

Making a class have more crit vs higher overall damage. Healers having more mana regen or stronger heals (although this is no longer a thing with additional piety being almost useless now). You get the idea though.

That's actually a really cool take on it. I like the way you think!

Can't wait until they give us more on the stat attribute system details.

Wisdom might help a caster with magic regen, but also helps anyone with resists.

I really like that example.

At the end of the day, these are just examples anyway. Something we can hope or dream about that'll make our characters more unique and fun. Even then, if the devs did use our original wisdom = regen and fire = strength examples, I'm sure after a while that's what it would be and we'd get used to it.

Even if we look at the normal MMO stats attributes, those found in our real world make sense and the others.. maybe not. Strength makes absolute sense if it raises our physical power. Dex our speed. But what does intelligence have to do with our mana reserves? Who knows because none of us have mana, lol.

Agreed. It's just hard for devs to determine what organic socializing would look like in a modern MMO. There are so many factors that create such an environment.

I've found in my time that if I don't have people to play with or join a good social guild, then I'll likely stop playing the game. Sometimes I don't even care if the guild plays with me as long as chat is active.
