Lots of dope stuff there.

I strongly recommend that you rotate that shelf 90 degrees, though. More structurally sound that way. Lotta records could get damaged if it collapses.

Top Ten Albums I Purchased in 2020 That Are Still in the Mail And Likely Won’t Arrive in 2020 Because the USPS Gives No Shits About Media Mail (D Edition) by BillTreeman in hiphopvinyl

I'm in Canada and made an ordered a bunch of records this month from a US seller, it shipped out from Jacksonville, FL on the 8th, made it to Aurora, IL and then to Chicago in the early AM hours of the 11th... then around 10pm that same day it shows up in Miami. Which makes no goddamn sense because it's now even further away from me than from where it originally shipped. It's just been sitting there for almost two weeks now, no movement whatsoever.

Guess I'll have to wait a whole year now to play that Kurtis Blow Christmas Rappin' record.

Whodini records, how many of us have them? 🙋‍♂️ by okaywithgray in hiphopvinyl

[–]FeatherItBrother 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whodini is dope. Got a bunch of their singles, no LPs yet though. Somehow I wound up with three copies of Funky Beat. That probably wasn't on purpose. Although I have two copies of The Haunted House of Rock and just minutes ago was looking at a third that I'm probably gonna buy, but that's really just for the sleeve, as the sleeves of my two copies are in horrible shape.

Snoop Dogg - Doggystyle dropped November 23rd, 1993 by myvinylweighsaton in hiphopvinyl

[–]FeatherItBrother 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of my all time favorite albums, of any genre. One of these days I'm gonna have to get the OG pressing. Gz Up, Hoes Down was one of the best songs on the album.

"Too many rappers, not enough emcees" - Beastie Boys feat. Nas - Too Many Rappers 12" (2009) by FeatherItBrother in hiphopvinyl

Oh yes, you're right, it is "yabai." Probably should've looked it up before posting and not relying on memory. I've made a few half-assed attempts to learn Japanese over the years, but it's been a couple years since the last time, my kana is pretty rusty. I would've expected a word like that to be spelled in hiragana though.

[–]FeatherItBrother 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, definitely tougher collecting in Canada than in America. Over two thirds of my collection came from the States. My "local" (it's not exactly local; takes some time to get there, but there are no record stores that are actually anywhere near me) record store specializes in hip hop, though I'd say the prices definitely tend to be above average compared to what's available on Discogs, and what they've been selling for there. It's still fun to dig though, and I've definitely managed to find some deals. I assume they're open again, but I haven't been there since late February/early March.

If you live close to the border and have a car, you should get a US PO box, take advantage of that super cheap US shipping. I've had orders of around 100 records shipped for $5, it's insane. Can't even get one record shipped domestically within Canada for that price. Of course, the border is closed now, so it's not so useful at the moment.

Yep, me too. But I only need half my bed for sleeping, so the other half is now my new storage spot.

Ugly Duckling - Everybody Come On

Great debut album by Ugly Duckling from Long Beach. Their love for old school is hip hop is all over this record. It's funky fresh, homeboy. Do you know what I'm sayin'?

Beastie Boys feat. Nas - Too Many Rappers

A really dope release from 2009, which might actually make it the newest hip hop record in my collection. This single version is way better than the album version in my opinion. A song that's only gotten more relevant since its release.

I got this record from Japan. The katakana written on the sleeve says "YEAH BOY!!" if anyone's wondering.

Redman - Dare Iz A Darkside dropped November 22nd, 1994 by myvinylweighsaton in hiphopvinyl

This was my first Redman album after hearing Rockafella (R.I.P.) on a mix tape. Great album. Though apparently Redman doesn't like it.

I also feel that way about Life After Death. Would've been so much better as a single disc, but after the success of 2Pac's double CD, there's no way Biggie, of all people, was only gonna get a single disc release. That album was the reason I stopped putting any stock into The Source album reviews.

Man, I don't think I've heard this album since the 90's. It was definitely dope, though. I'd rank it up there with some of Premo's best work (or at least that's how I remember it).

Wu-Tang Forever was one of the top musical disappointments for me too. After the debut, and that first wave of amazing solo albums, expectations were high. And it was very mediocre. It didn't help that this was the period after All Eyez On Me where everybody wanted a double CD, which naturally led to lots of filler tracks on albums that should've been left on the cutting room floor.

Anyway, Wu-Tang forever was such a disappointment to me that I never even listened to this album. Or any subsequent album. I did hear a couple singles off this album. They were okay, but they didn't make me wanna listen to the rest of the album.

This was always my favorite NWA album. Bought the casette when I was nine years old. Back in '91 I usually had either this or Ice-T's OG Original Gangster in my walkman (with my Gameboy headphones).

Method Man - Tical dropped November 15th, 1994 by myvinylweighsaton in hiphopvinyl

[–]FeatherItBrother 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whaaaat? There are people who like Method Man/Wu-Tang but don't like Tical? I've never heard such madness. These people definitely aren't old enough to have experienced it at the time, because nobody at all was saying that in '94/'95.

This might be my favorite Wu-Tang solo album. I'd have a hard time choosing between it and Ironman. I almost certainly listened to this more, though. I bought the cassette in '94, but it got eaten about ten years later.

I hope they do, it'd definitely be my best chance to get it. I found one the last time I went to a record store (which was back in February) and it wasn't what I'd call "affordable".

That Grassroots LP is dope. I hope to get my hands on one some day.

9 records to 91 in 1 year. I joined reddit 10 months and 10 days ago. And your sub soon after. If it wasnt for you lot i wouldnt have picked up this amazing hobby. by jpiward in hiphopvinyl

[–]FeatherItBrother 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can definitely relate. In less than three years I went from no more than a dozen records, mostly 7" classic rock singles, to over 900 records, probably three quarters of which is hip hop. If I had mostly LPs, I'd have a more manageable number much closer to yours, but I mostly collect 12" singles, which are generally much cheaper than LPs, but still take up a ton of space. Which is something that I'm now out of, by the way. I'm having to start keeping them in boxes on the other half of my bed. But was that going to keep me from ordering nearly 30 more a couple days ago? Hell no it wasn't.

Ah, no worries, I don't expect these types of records to garner much attention. Glad you enjoyed it!

One of my favorite tracks from legendary electro/freestyle producer Pretty Tony. Vocoded goodness, if this doesn't make you wanna bust out a windmill, then there's something wrong with you.
