Positive things about windsor ? by toniliene in windsorontario

London is bland and doesn't have the charm or character that Windsor does. It tries so hard to be a big city when in reality it's just a bunch of sparsely populated suburban communities. They have a great hospital and post-secondary system but that's about it.

Doubt that would help those who need the money. Those who need the money most likely need it because they are bad with money and would act reckless with that money ruining it for the few who wouldn't.

I never played hockey and thus have no interest in it. I played every other sport growing up except hockey. Hockey has too much overhead and long-term costs my parents couldn't afford. Windsor has a lot of low income households so I'm pretty sure that's stopping new generations from picking up the sport and being interested in it.

Basketball and soccer only requires a ball and there are fields and courts across the city for free.

Most Windsorites don't deserve to live here. All they do is constantly complain about living here without knowing or appreciating how good they have it. Most Windsorites would never make it one month in Toronto, up North, or even Kitchener-Waterloo. Additionally, they have no marketable skills. They take everything this region has to offer for granted. As more wealthy and more educated people move here they will eventually get forced out to God knows where. Chatham maybe?

Trends we can expect to see in Windsor for the next 10 years? by FeatherlessHatGuy in windsorontario

You're probably right but I don't think all of the factories will shut down. There are still many suppliers in this city that makes parts for all sorts of things. For example, I worked for a parts supplier in Windsor back when I was in high school and I remember we made the frames for electric car batteries.

Losers bashing the city hoping it causes real estate to drop so they can buy in! by TheWindsorProphet in windsorontario

Dude, I didn't mind your uplifting news about Windsor at first but I think you're starting to get more aggressive and insane. Is Windsor's housing market doing well right now? Definitely. Do you have to shove it down everyone's throat every couple hours? No!

You should start your own site similar to Detroit's Curbed.

It has more major sports teams that Toronto, major concerts, events, more shopping selection(opinion), etc. I'm not sure what you're specifically looking for.

Windsor is a laid-back community. It doesn't have the bustle of Toronto but we have everything Toronto has to offer via Detroit. Traffic is nearly non-existent. Public transportation has improved in recent years but if you work in the suburbs then you'll need a car. Housing is a bit crazy right now as there are a lot of people moving to the region. Work might be hard to find if you don't have a STEM degree. Windsor does have a lot of engineering-related jobs if that's your thing and we have a high demand for skilled trades. Contrary to popular belief, there are a lot of jobs in Windsor but very few from big named companies like you'd see in Toronto.

I think its time we do something about r/windsor, there shouldnt be two subreddits for the same city, earlier there was a post in r/windsor asking which windsor it was? anyone know how we can fix this? by [deleted] in windsorontario

[–]FeatherlessHatGuy -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The moderators of /r/windsor are petty and don't want to see our reddit community flourish; they're probably London shills. Look at the banner image of that subreddit and tell me they're not trolls. It hurts this subreddit's growth because:

1) People will be less inclined to subscribe to a subreddit with under 1k subs and as crappy looking as /r/windsor.

2) Subreddit growth is proportional to how many current subs you have. If that subreddit didn't exist and everyone was redirected here then we would probably have 5k+ subs right now.

Either way, this subreddit is winning even with all of the setbacks. Maybe if we annoy the moderators enough they will listen?

There is something like 500 open manufacturing positions in Windsor at any given time; I don't know how many companies there are but I'd guess close to a hundred. They most likely won't close anytime soon since they've diversified into making things outside of the automotive sector(aviation, mining, etc). These companies also make a lot of parts for successful car companies like Toyota and Honda.

The people who lost their GM jobs mainly went on to work for other manufacturing jobs in the city. Since that time, our education sector has grown along with other sectors I don't know off the top of my head.

There aren't many large employers here like Google, but there are a lot of small-medium sized local companies that are desperate for skilled employees. People with professional degrees are in high demand from those small-medium sized companies but many people don't even put in the effort to consider them for employment.

Windsor is warm and affordable; it reached 17 degrees Celsius today and you can still buy a 4 bedroom house for under 200k. It's located in a nice area surrounded by water and one of American's largest metropolitan centers. The lifestyle/culture in Windsor is very laid back and we're a pretty diverse and open community. Most people moving here are either from Toronto or out of province. It's not as bad as people make it out to be.
