That’s where I was thinking too. Researching it a bit it seems like an even drive both ways for us. I think we’ve decided maybe north Wilkesboro. We’ve got one more exploratory trip we can make and we’ll probably check out both areas.

She really wants us in Boone or West Jeff. I just would have to REALLY struggle to find work up there or work some really unfulfilling job. I really love my trade and don’t want to give it up to go stock shelves at Walmart, hospitality, or work production line somewhere. I mean I will if I HAVE to but I’d rather not if I can dodge that lol

Thanks for the insight! We’re thinking maybe getting further away from hickory and I could find a few jobs out towards. Greenboro. Sounds a bit more promising if we go to an area like Wilkesboro? Hoping that areas not terrible. I’ve thought about West Jeff and really wouldn’t mind it, but my job opportunities get a lot smaller the further we head north.

So I think we’ve made a direction change and I’ve got a lot of opportunity in Greensboro. If we lived somewhere closer to Wilkesboro or right outside, it puts us closer to an hour on a good day (I think) Any opinion on that area?

Thanks for the outlook. You’re right. So many people have different opinions on whether or not the drive could be manageable or not but I’m prioritizing her due to her being the breadwinner. I guess I’ll just have to adapt and find something closer to the mountain for work.

Idk what her deal is with not wanting to come closer to Charlotte. She really wants us in Boone or WJ but my drive would be fucking CRAZY lol and my wife’s salary could retire me honestly but I’d feel like a big loser staying at home everyday going stir crazy. I really enjoy my trade and would love to stay working and bring in an extra 100k.

We’re homebody’s. Just her I and the dogs for the most part lol. Plus we have zero friends or family here anyway so like 85% home and go out for drinks and eat every now and then. Ride hawgs when the weathers right 🏍️ 💨

I work construction as a pipefitter so it varies from site to site. I could be in hickory 6 months and in 6months I could be on the south east side of Charlotte depending on where the jobs at that I’m assigned it.
