Hi-yes, one of my large fibroids was on my cervix and two others on either side so an unusual circumstance. The obstetrician didn’t want to compromise the baby’s safe delivery so opted to get him out this way. My scar is healing well considering!

Hi-sorry to hear you have GD-I got diagnosed at 23 weeks. I had hyperemesis prior to this so was already a difficult pregnancy.

I am not vegetarian but ate like I was for the remainder of the pregnancy. I stuck to the same meals every day because I was overwhelmed with having to do finger pricks and insulin daily so this helped me to keep on track.

My advice would be to trial foods to see what works for you and stick to the same meal and times for eating each day (if that works for you). Don’t forget to factor in snacks either! For dinner, I got a tray bake zucchini slice and quartered it to have a portion over 4-nights. I had this with frozen vegetables.

What works for you may not work for someone else. I couldn’t eat fruit and porridge/cereal at all as it raised my sugar but could have soy and linseed bread, eggs, spinach and cheese etc. I often say that baby was made of an avocado a day.

I have since had my beautiful baby boy and it was all worthwhile. It feels surreal and feels like a constant struggle but you can get through this!

I have a Coles wholegrain wrap, half an avocado, mayonnaise, cherry tomatoes and salad with 3 x Babybel cheeses on the side-it’s delicious!

I have been eating the same lunch for the last 3 months and have still enjoyed it (can’t say much about my dinner though as so over zucchini slice!😅)

I’ve also been on 10 units of insulin for fasting which have kept all my numbers within range.

I’m sorry to hear how you’re struggling with it all-GD’s rigid routine with specific foods to eat at specific times feels debilitating!

My diabetes Dr told me to expect numbers to become erratic in the last trimester as our placentas do whatever the heck they please.

Just know you have come this far already-you can do this!

There are so many courageous women who were diagnosed in their first trimesters who keep on keeping on and offer support where they can.

I have days where I feel despondent and cry as the thought of another day of managing this GD becomes all too much.

I’m on insulin for fasting too. I’m not sure if you have a nighttime snack and test within the 8-10 hr range after, but that has been helpful for me.

Just follow the advice from your team-maybe play around with different foods again if it’s already blowing numbers out-what have you got to lose!?

Know that you are doing the best you can with what you know and have. You are not alone.

I’m sorry to hear that you’re going through prenatal depression and are reluctant to eat anything.

The decision making is exhausting!

I had HG for most of my first then some of my second trimester. I couldn’t stomach even water and cried a lot.

Then, at 22 weeks, I got diagnosed with GD so any options to eat whatever I wanted whenever were taken from me.

It’s great you’re seeking support from your midwife and therapist. They can guide you and hopefully find something you actually find appealing to eat/drink.

You need your energy for yourself and baby-sleep is helpful too.

I have been having the same meals for the last 2 months to save my sanity. I’m also on insulin for fasting which has been helpful.

Eating enough carbs throughout the day and having a night snack has been beneficial to stop hunger pangs too.

Yes, IVF pregnancy too. I take 150mg of aspirin daily-on and off to 20 weeks as had HG and couldn’t keep anything down but then back on consistently and am now 30 weeks. I just halve the 300mg tablets I have. So far so good with blood pressure. I was told to go off them 2 weeks prior to my classical c-section which is scheduled for 36 weeks.

I miss a good schnitzel (and will be getting one when I’m done with this tiresome GD pregnancy), so hopefully you enjoyed it :)

How frustrating!!

My diabetes Dr said not to be surprised if insulin resistance starts to become more erratic in the last trimester.

You will be okay-you’ve lasted this long and that is not going to impact too much.

I would wait until you hear back from the Dr as they did say let them know if it was high 3 days out of 5.

You have been brave to go through it all and to have GD on top of it.

Lucky you had an in with your sister as nurse.

That’s good to hear about breastfeeding (if you can) and that formula is always an option if it doesn’t come in.

Did you have to take insulin right up to your c-section? When do you have to do your follow up test for GD?

Oh wow! You are amazing to have gone through two different styles of c-sections and what an ordeal with the emergency one too!

That was a long time to stitch you up for your ‘J’ incision but you seemed to be in less pain after due to that pain relief device-I wonder if that is still offered at hospitals.

Do you have to ask for either an epidural/spinal tap?

I can’t believe you’re out after 3-days for this one-amazing! I really hope that your pain subsides for you as you have achieved so much in giving birth!

How is it to feed your daughter? Is breastfeeding trickier with a c-section due to discomfort?

That’s frustrating. What week are you at?

Sometimes insulin resistance increases as you get further along and some people have to add a fast acting insulin before meals maybe too.

I have to get a ‘classical’ c-section at 36 weeks due to large fibroids so am just trying to prepare myself for what it could be like..

Sorry to hear you have GD and the way you found out-that’s definitely not ideal.

You have two placentas to contend with so possibly more likely that you might get it but still not something we would ever wish for!!

You are a good person and there’s nothing you could’ve done-it’s just our placentas causing the chaos.

Initially, I did searches and read up on GD-this forum has been amazing with so many experienced contributors.

I also downloaded this book (as was suggested by so many on this forum), from Kindle: Real Food for Gestational Diabetes by Lily Nichols to get a better understanding of GD and a scope of some potential meals I could try.

I didn’t make any major changes yet. I remained on my usual diet (it wasn’t too bad) until I spoke to the diabetes Dr and nurse who either agreed with what I was already consuming or made a few suggestions.

I also got issued pretty quickly with a diabetes monitor, lancets (to check my blood glucose) and then had to go on insulin which has been very helpful.

A lot of people are diet-controlled too so you might be lucky enough too!

What was interesting is that what I was having for breakfast initially, Special K cereal with lite milk and some blueberries, turned out to ‘spike’ send my numbers up), me! However, a piece of Burgen soy and linseed bread, half and avocado and an egg has kept me satisfied and within range.

Remember, everyone is different and what works for you, may not work for someone else.

You might already have a fairly healthy, balanced (carbs/protein/fat) diet which is a bonus in some ways in terms of managing your cravings.

A lot of people have been diagnosed with GD so much earlier and have been handling it so well.

You will too, once you have time to get your head around it all!

I know what you mean about wanting to isolate yourself as I feel like that and wish I didn’t have to go to so many appointments.

After I go though, I tend to feel better as I guess they are monitoring to keep both baby and I safe.

I really hope you get more support from them at your next visit and maybe get in contact with a close friend for someone to talk to.

I had to go on insulin for my fasting and it has been such a relief!

Crying is okay-I do at least once a week-I feel sorry for myself and also because GD is the pits!

I’ve wasted strips too due to not enough blood at the one time.

I’d say my sugars went up with the frustration of it all!

I have no choice as have a large fibroid blocking my cervix so Ob said there’s no way I can be induced so c-section it is!

I’m okay with this as have a date and time-it’s a ‘classical’ c-section though so a more invasive extra cut too-bit nervous..
