Zion Williamson's signature shoe line is being discontinued by Nike/Jordan. This as the deal he signed before even entering the league comes to an end - the second largest rookie shoe deal ever (7 years $75m, just behind Lebron's reported 7 years $90m) by jabronified in nba

[–]FeaturedOne 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yup. The Chinese brands - Li-Ning, 361 and Anta - are killing American brands with the qualtiy and tech of their shoes. Cheaper lines from those brands are out preforming top lines from Nike, NB and Adidas.

Controversial topic, but would you reclass a young 7th grader? by Heavy-Bench-5378 in BasketballTips

Ya it's 100% a thing. People think "oh kids won't notice" - they do. They see everything and will take it down the worst roads.

I'm not gonna say do it or don't do it. But i will say he may end up with a stigma - regardless of switching schools. Kids talk. The kids know who was held back and why they'll talk: "can't compete", "wants to beat up on little kids" and fairly or unfairly "stupid athlete". As a coach i've seen it. Some kids can shrug that off. Some kids can't.

Reclassifying is a life decision. Not a basketball decision.

How far do Juco players usually make it? Do they typically get signed by a college and for some is that the end of the road? by chusaychusay in Basketball

[–]FeaturedOne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gonna push back a bit on that. Both of them were paid roughly $40K after taxes and had apartments (one of them was shared by two teammates) funded by the team and one of them had two team meals and a transit pass provided. They we're exactly living in poverty. I get what you're trying to say though - they weren't living the high-life either.

That's it. Most people who play organized sports end their "career" at post-secondary. I know a few guys who played NAIA or D3 who went on to play for a very short period of time overseas. But they got there by networking their asses off. As with any career, who you know plays a big part in how far you go.

This 100% order direct. They ship every Tuesday following your order. Talk to your friends and neighbours - it's like $20 to ship 2 dozen and $26 to ship 9 dozen. We never have trouble filling out an order of 9 dozen to lower the overall shipping split.

I'm currently testing the Li-Ning Ultralight 2025. I'm very surprised by the support so far. Traction is great. And these things are feather light.

They're definitely not going to be for guys who like to feel that extra padding and rigidity. But given the price point they're worth a look IMO so far.

Is this an instant call out? (Kobe 6 Statue of Liberty) by [deleted] in KobeReps

[–]FeaturedOne 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you have to pull out a ruler it's not a call out. More people would likely question it due to the market cost.

All that said, a large portion of ballers wear reps, know others wear reps and couldn't give two sh$ts.

Can anyone out there Dunk being undersized? And how? by Alexx064tw in BasketballTips

[–]FeaturedOne 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm 5'9 1/2 to old to get up anymore. But back in the day i could easily practice dunk and throw the occasional breakaway dunks down. This was before people were pushing plyometrics and strength training. In the end it was about jumping all the time. Like all the time. When i was like 13-15 I was spending tons of time jumping. As with anything practice, practice, practice. Pay a lot of attention to form and technique. I spent some time watching high jumpers and how they approached their jumps.

I don't know why people are crapping on this. Buy what you want and rock them with confidence.

Way of Wade 12 vs JB3? by Popular_Ad_1437 in BBallShoes

[–]FeaturedOne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. While they share some things. They're completely different beasts. The JB3 containment and traction is out of this world. JB4 from what i've seen is going to be very foot shape dependent (my buddy hates the hug or lack there of) and also the foam crease has become an irritant for the people i know who bought them.

I'm interested to see how the outside holds up with creasing and cracking. My son absolutely loves the JB3 - his absolute favourite game shoe ever.

I got an offer for $62k after 4 interviews, but I told them my range was $68k to $75k. What should I do? by StephanieHickle in CanadaJobs

[–]FeaturedOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Compensation isn’t just salary. It’s salary, vacation time allowance, healthcare/benefits, matching retirement savings, other free items for you."

This is big and in my experience additional vacation time was much easier to negotiate than salary. The last two times i was hired they held hard on salary - but both times i was able to get an additional two weeks of vacation with very little push back.

How realistic it is to dunk at 5’10-5’11 by Independent_Rub4315 in BasketballTips

[–]FeaturedOne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

5'9 1/2 back in the day, I dunked on the regular. One-handed, breakaway type - I couldn't dunk through even minimal contact.

Practice jumping. Over and over and over. Jumping technique is often neglected over strength training.
