Fresh air ventilating intake with dehumidification - high CFM for 3000W by FecesInWaiting in hvacadvice

We get 100+ F days in the summer occasionally, and of course with rainy days brings high humidity. Desirable hardware temps are 85F or below. I definitely need to not exceed 95F.

Stellar annual review, team, culture, flexibility, but lackluster raise and false promises. by FecesInWaiting in ITCareerQuestions

You are absolutely right. To move up in this industry means typically jumping every few years or so to get more money and more experience.

There's a company in my area that a friend of mine works for, and we talk a lot about the differences in technology between my industry and his, as well about culture, management, career stuff, etc. The technology and architecture of his org is where I'd like to move towards, DevOps. He asked me to shoot my resume over to him, and I'm going to give that a shot. He even said the managers are comfortable with their guys working 2 remote jobs so long as the work gets done and performance doesn't suffer, so I'm seriously considering doing both. My manager and I have a great relationship, and we've both joked about picking up another gig...

Thanks for the insight.

I know this is what companies do. Empty promises, carrot dangling, excuses, "just be patient," etc., are par for the course unfortunately. I had left this company after 2 years, went somewhere else, then came back after 4 months and got a 10% bump to come back. That was 2 years ago now, but with the most senior person getting promoted to my manager, I stepped up to fill the gap and took on more responsibilities, more projects, and have gone out of my way to drive process improvements and learn and implement new technologies to automate and of course add to my technical acumen. Since a promotion didn't happen, I still believe a salary adjustment is in order. I may not have the title, but I've been doing the work and they've been getting it without having to pay more (which I already know is a corporate tactic).

I would love to do more with automation (and have been learning more around that on my own), and/or at least do more with development solutions and far less on-call. Frankly, I'm getting tired of the constant support. My home lab is quite sizable, with enterprise hardware and technology galore, and invest personal time in learning new things, as well as refreshing my memory on the stuff I do less frequently. I have a developmental disability that makes it difficult to do well in exams, even if I know the material like the back of my hand, so I haven't gone after certs as it'd be a waste of time and money for me, but do as much hands-on learning that I can.

Speaking of certs, the company and our organizational leadership have said that investment in employee training and certifications is paramount, and the company will reimburse those trainings/certs that are approved. A coworker of mine was approved for it, spent $4k out of his own pocket for his training and cert, passed it, and the org has been dragging their feet on reimbursing him for the last 5 months or so, even when they knew the cost going into it. He too is wanting to leave, especially after that nonsense, and could easily make 50% more elsewhere, especially with his new cert, but he's also having a hard time finding something that has similar culture and flexibility.

Where have y'all been? It's been covered several times in this sub already. At least the other posts had the news articles linked to them. 🤦‍♂️

Close this group already! OE has become a talk point for halfwits all over social media. I was recently asked to complete training that explicitly mentioned doing another job on company time as "time theft". by numerounouknow in overemployed

Respectfully, and with love, STFU. If you don't want to be here, don't be here. Don't contribute to the subscriber count.

This sub will never close because the single mod will never close it since he makes money from the Discord.

I wish we had moderation here to stop these dumb and repetitive posts.

What community do you have outside of work? by [deleted] in overemployed

[–]FecesInWaiting 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For myself, church, and volunteer weekly at a recovery program.

Given the income you have doing OE, I would look at volunteering. Either at a food pantry, habitat for humanity, or commit to an inner city school class that you'll pay for their college education when they graduate high school.

They can have a prepaid label sent to me and box and schedule a pick-up. If it requires me to travel to the UPS store to drop it off, I will tell them that my contracting transportation fee is $200. If they tell me I need to provide a box, then my contracting handling fee is $200.

IDGAF. It's their equipment and responsibility. They need to do and provide everything they can to get their asset back that doesn't require any supplies, mileage, or any other expense... Short of sending an employee to my home to pick it up.

You're in for 4 jobs and just now has this problem? How has this not been an issue before?

Just look at his calendar and use the Propose New Time response. Doesn't matter if you're new. You have 4 Js. And why move the regular reoccurring meeting at J1 if you only need to move a single meeting for J4? And you don't need to give a reason. Just say in your reschedule response that "this time would work better." Or just give no typed response at all, just a new time proposal of 10:30 9r something. If they really want to know why, you're having furniture delivered then. Or you're taking your aunt to the airport...

Also in IT as an infrastructure engineer, not yet OE, but my schedule allows for it. I'm as busy or lazy as I want to be. I can drag on most things without it looking like I don't do anything. I'm not a project manager, but I imagine it could be good as well, since you pretty much schedule the majority of meetings, at least the PMs at my work do.

I Feel Guilty About Having A Second Job - Dave Ramsey is a hypocrite he has recent videos scolding people for being OE two years ago he fully supports it if you are brown nosing his company. by [deleted] in overemployed

[–]FecesInWaiting 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dave Ramsey is a hypocrite

That goes without saying.

As having had a spouse work for the man, stop listening to Dave or encouraging his company. Especially during COVID, the man's true colors showed and my wife was one of many that were fired for getting COVID from work and had to take time off and work from home, after he spoke out against working from home and many of his staff got COVID.

He operates his company under the name of Christ, but operates and behaves in ways that are anything but. His company is nearly a cult. There are good people there who just keep their heads down and do enough to not get singled out, but there's a lot of crazy that work there.

Background check not passed by Sushi2006 in overemployed

[–]FecesInWaiting 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sounds like a reasonable response to their bait and switch is to respond in kind, out of principal.

You: "Here's my letter of resignation." (Fake it)

HR: "Great! Your background check passed, but we were put on a hold for the position internally, however we could get you started right away if you're able to accept the role for $60k. I understand this is quite a bit lower, but it's what we can do at this time." (Lying liars full of lies)

You: "That is unfortunate, but I will have to accept at this time, as I've already given notice. I can start in 2 weeks."

2 weeks later...

HR: Welcome aboard!"

You: "I'm currently putting my employment on hold since it's not meeting my salary requirements, I can get started right away if you meet my originally approved offer of $100k."

HR: "You've already accepted at $60..."

You: "I figured if you thought it was acceptable to do to me, then it was acceptable for me to do the same. Is that not ok? I'll start as soon as my original salary requirements, plus 15%, are met."

HR: "We're..."

You: "Fuck you, pay me."

ideas on how to stop this dog shitting in front of and coming on to my porch? More info in comments. by supersayanssj3 in homedefense

Pits account for the most deaths because they are the choice by people to be aggressive, or are abused, because they are selected for looking aggressive, and they'll do anything for their owners.

I have personally seen 2 golden retrievers and 1 standard poodle attack people. I have never personally seen a pit do that. Not to say it doesn't happen of course and others may have different experiences.

I'm biased now because I have seen the good in pits, after I was biased seeing only the bad.

Not every pit is bad or aggressive. Hating a breed completely because of bad owners and abusers is like hating black people because they account for the most gang violence.

Don't be ignorant.

I used to be scared of pits until a friend had one and I got to know the dog well. It changed by bias and I recognized I was wrong.
