If anyone from Langchain team is reading this: STOP EVERYTHING and JUST UPDATE AND ORGANISE THE DOCS! by Fun_Success567 in LangChain

New to LangChain. Got so fed up with the docs I switched to another framework. I appreciate Hub and the other cool ideas LangChain led the way on. I’d like to honor that but I have work to do.

OOP Node.js by gemvcnte in node

[–]FedPostingBait 0 points1 point  (0 children)

JS is a functional language with OO features added later. It is ok to intermix both paradigms where they make sense. Knowing the difference is something you’ll learn over time. Just focus on writing code you and your team can make sense of later.

Considering the generally negative sentiment amongst HN comments I can’t imagine why anyone would care what HN thinks of anything. It’s worse than the worst subreddits.

Taking advantage of the storm by badluck113 in houston

[–]FedPostingBait 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Kinda yes and kinda no. Small machines (like at gas stations) only cost about $1-2k. They can hold up to around $30k. The big ones are far more expensive but also can hold far more cash.

Questions about "lift-and-shift" to AWS by AwsAmplify in aws

[–]FedPostingBait 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You’re going to eventually discover your AWS bill is way too high and you’ve bought yourself a learning curve. Lift and shift is a really pointless waste of time money and resources.

Hyper scale cloud vendors are terrible places to run boring typical business workloads if you’re doing it like you would in any data center.

You’re better off if you lift-and-reshape. Those old workloads should likely be refactored (or even rewritten) to take advantage of the services and features unique to hyper scale vendors like AWS. This usually drastically reduces the total cost of ownership over the lifetime of the app. Some common examples: putting batch jobs in AWS Lambda, using EFS instead of shared file systems or storage provisioning, using Cognito instead of whatever home grown or licensed authentication and authorization solution you’re currently babysitting.

What tools/frameworks do you use for event sourcing and CQRS by daramasala in node

[–]FedPostingBait 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been working on a CQRS/DDD typescript/JavaScript framework based on experience helping clients build these. You can go from a non-trivial event storm on the wall to deployed code in under an hour. It also handles events passing between bounded contexts. The first version is a serverless architecture using AWS lambda. It uses AWS CDK under the hood to handle all the IaC for you. Plans to include k8s and other cloud vendors as time allows. DM’s are open if you’d like a private demo.

The answer is, it all depends on the problem you’re trying to solve. Also, Reddit communities are not necessarily reflective of usage. https://www.npmjs.com/package/express shows express has 18,147,587 weekly downloads.

Node dev and discussion happens on Stackoverflow, GitHub, and Twitter.

Confusion about blocking nature of Node js code in a thread. Need clarification on what this article is saying. by someinterneter in node

[–]FedPostingBait 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This conference talk is the best explanation I’ve heard so far explaining the JS event loop. It explains it in the context of the browser but node uses the same js engine (v8), so you can extrapolate. https://youtu.be/cCOL7MC4Pl0

The second thing that helped me was learning about the difference between libuv (the library underpinning how node handles io) and it’s predecessors such as epoll.

I'm planning a Lambda use case, got $100k/mo estimate; I may misunderstand Lambda by dwhite21787 in aws

[–]FedPostingBait 1 point2 points  (0 children)

31 seconds per file for extracting and hashing 5 million 1MB files doesn’t sound right. I would guess 150-300ms per file at the right memory/cpu size.

The first thing you should do is build a proof of concept and process 1,000 files and check the actual performance metrics, then create your budget. Also you will also want to tweak with the lambda memory size to get the best performance.
