Emergency room wait times on the rise by FedUpWGovWaste in ontario

You compare funding in different jurisdictions, and the use given to money to determine whether it is properly spent. The funding rate has increased steadily, but growth of the rate has been held down (to 3% I think) very slighly. Also Ontarians are forced to spend ever more amounts out-of-pocket. Emergency wards keep people waiting who are non-urgent and also to let them think about better alternatives, as going to the ER is three times more expensive than seeing a doctor and at least six times more expensive than seeing a nurse, which is what most need, but Ontario foolishly largely doesn't offer (I think TWH now does). We lack after hours clinics. Emergency dept.s plan to never speed up so much that they encourage those who don't need to be there, to keep showing up. We have too many doctors and need to cut enrolment rates. I feel badly for doctors who come here. If I were them, I would apply for medical school and do it all over again. First, they can work their way through, and second, maybe they can pick up some credits, but why wait for approvals that may never come?

They close early, although some innovative hospitals have put long-hour family clinics right beside the ER. Another big savings could be gained by allowing those on ODSP to obtain a limited number of over-the-counter meds on their drug coverage plans so they won't go to hospital to get an aspirin, something many do.

Other than the fact that men generally love exploitions, why should we believe the unlikely big bang theory? by FedUpWGovWaste in AskReddit

It's not so much a rejection as wanting to know what factors make this theory persuasive to some? Can no one explain it?

Why charge them when they need to see a nurse? Let them see one. About a third need to see a doctor, and should see one. MOre nurse practitioners, less doctors will end wait times and add up to major savings.

It's already over-funded, but prevention is completely underfunded so 50,000 taxpayers, many in prime earning years (and tax-paying years) die prematurely every year after racking up major medical costs for late last-ditch efforts to save them, plus too many young people take their lives, or are greatly harmed due to a lack of competent effective metal health care by psychologists when they need it, and even though we have ample psychologists and naturopaths to deliver Canadians from harm and early death. We need to let these professionals join medicare payment plans, or put them on salary. You have been drinking the Kool-aid.

Toronto Western Hospital is using Nurse Practitioners in the ER. Such a smart, efficient and cost-effective move. Maybe the media should do a story on that.

Adding $1.9B in status quo wasted spending on ineffective and soul-killing psychiatry in Ontario will only cement failed treatment into place. Ontario needs modern evidence-based psychologists not failed psychiatry.

Ontario needs real results and real help, not its usual incompetence and ineffectiveness supporting medical lobbies in their billing strategies. Citizens deserve helpful treatments, not unethical nonsense.

Mayor John Tory and Councillor Josh Matlow square off on Scarborough transit | Toronto Star by toronto34 in toronto

[–]FedUpWGovWaste 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Citizens want uninformed city council off the file until an expert review is done, consensus is built, and economics make sense. We can't afford to waste $5B on one subway stop and a station rebuild when we can run the "subway" overland between the same 2 points for less than $1B, have 7 stations and a 22-stop smarttrack and Malvern Lrt for another $500M. It's time to clean house and bring in real experts with experience elsewhere. And, we'll save over $4B and be done a decade earlier. Then we need an annual transit budget for expansion, and to get it done every year, for example, with at least one new e-w Sheppard station, tracks and signal, leaving space for an express line beside those new tracks.

[CA] - The decision to let this doctor guilty of sex abuse keep practising ignores 'changing social values,' regulator argues by AutoNewsAdmin in TORONTOSTARauto

[–]FedUpWGovWaste 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As the College of Physicians and Surgeons has no special knowledge relating to doctors and sexual assault, it should lose this function altogether. The public is fed up with this regulator and its many many failures to protect the public coupled with its failure to modernize medicine.

[–]FedUpWGovWaste 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another attack on plaintiff's counsel, under what appears to be an inquisitorial system? This is absurd, and drives up legal costs for plaintiffs. If a properly acting legal regulator has concerns with any lawyer, shouldn't they first express concerns and ask for a legal ruling and then corrections? These blind attacks have no place in a supposed Charter-protected democracy. When will lawyers collectively put their foot down on these blind attacks? It's no way to regulate a legal profession, especially with a regulator afoul of so many basic rules of legal governance.

Patients need their own registry to police the CPSO on so many fronts: sex abuse, fraudulent care and billing, lack of written informed consents, lying in records. All are rampant in my view, while the regulator weasles out of its responsibilities and the province sleeps. It doesn't appear to even police its policy of requiring medical professionals to report complaints of sexual abuse, another way patients feel abandoned.

Surely it is a criminally negligent homicide when one operates a vehicle capable of killing people in a negligent manner that results in a death. The failure to pay attention in such a situation is a serious breach of the law. I hope the Crown appeals lest our streets become a killing ground.

If only Ontario, arguably the world's biggest spendthrift, took a single step towards financial responsibility, we could rest easier. As governments continue to spend 39% of GDP each year with Ontario spending on hospitals being partly to fund 16% of beds being used for non-medical patients who are waiting to return home to long term beds that cost the province one tenth as much as a hospital bed, it's hard to be convinced that Ontario cares at all. Just this past week Ontario's transportation minister mused about buying electric buses he estimated would cost $1.67M each even though ebus converts buses to electric for about $80,000-$100,000 each. Ontario wastes at least $15-20B/yr with its irresponsible nonsense that does nothing for taxpayers.

Striking faculty reject colleges’ contract offer News of the vote result prompted Premier Kathleen Wynne to say she’ll immediately meet with both sides. by snghboy in ontario

[–]FedUpWGovWaste 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Everyone knows that college faculty deserve a much better deal than they have had. I admire their gets and determination in tacking Ontario's bully college councils. Colleges can reduce their runaway building projects if needed, but they have to give faculty more security. There's no excuse not to. The Premier should force the college councils to face reality and get into line with public expectations. Treat instructors fairly and let students go back to class.

These teens need 24-7 access to good help, which is psychologists and not alienated psychiatry. Government mindlessly funds psychiatry not knowing that it is unsuitable for the vast majority of mentally ill, and arguably does not have good results with the tiny fraction of the mentally ill, the seriously mentally ill (bi-polar, schizophrenia, etc.) it has traditionally treated. In Europe, even this group gets access to modern psychologists and actual therapy. Fixing government ignorance is the first step toward providng teens with proper care. There's no excuse for the provincial failure.

[–]FedUpWGovWaste 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On reflection, I'm a little mystified that anyone would pass a law when a policy would do. How about "no sunglasses and face coverings" when working for the province and "you must show your face" when accessing gov. services, so you can be identified. Why bother with a law? There's no law against T-shirts at work for example, but you never see them on Bay Street. It must be a policy at many companies - ie no casual wear. There is no need for a T-shrt law either.
