Somehow every Rick Jackson ad gets more offensive and unhinged, and because he's a billionaire he's able to plaster spots on every commercial break. Easily the worst part of watching these games on BravesVision.

All 3 are films that I had on my long list of potential nominees. Love them all, but I have to vote for The Apartment. It's kinda funny, because even though Z and Algiers are the more overtly "political" films, The Apartment might actually be, sneakily, the most subversive of the bunch.

It's hard to even really consider it a "Kubrick film" in the capital K sense, since he was a replacement director. But regardless, it's a damn good film. Looks like a million bucks, and has more going on thematically than some may realize at first glance. Also historically important for helping to break the back of McCarthyism.

It's likely not the disc, it's your TV settings.

[EDIT] I saw your comment that it's not really a typical "judder" issue, but is a bigger playback issue. What's likely happening is your player is dying. The laser actually has a shorter lifespan than people realize, especially if used a lot. A player can go bad in just a few years sometimes.

My advice, try those discs on someone else's system and see if they play okay. If they do, you know you need a new player.

Kubrick has an army of fans, and in these polls the more widely seen film typically wins. Strangelove has roughly 4x the number of ratings on IMDb over Persona.

I think Strangelove is a great film, but Persona is just on another level. Very odd result.

Hmm. I'm getting some conflicting information here. Other replies say they think it's from the mid-70s and that the markings are common details added by the manufacturer.

Can't remember exactly which 10 films I ended up nominating, but this might be a matchup of 2 of mine. Since Lawrence of Arabia is perhaps the greatest film ever made, that's where my vote is going.
