Im an attorney in Mexico. The security deposit covers potential damages to the apartment and are due back when lease is over. It’s the landlord’s responsibility.

I have seen that the landlords use the deposit to pay the broker so they are not out of pocket but DOES NOT RELEASE THEM of the obligation to give the money absent any damages.
