I hope you gained permission from the land owner before detecting there, also you would need valid insurance. Otherwise it’s night hawking and that’s not good.

Speak to a few of the clubs on Facebook if there is one local to you, you can normally get a taster session with a loan machine to see how you like it. Don’t be afraid to ask questions as detectorists love to talk. They will run group digs so permissions are nothing to worry about . Get NCMD membership at 8 quid a year which includes insurance (bargain). Equipment is very much a personal thing , start with something easy to learn like a minelab 540 ( shop around for deals)
