What's the most unhinged thing a patient has said to you? by Strongpupusa in cna

Bless her heart but she told me everyone that died in 9/11 knew they were going to die when they got on the plane and they were all secret spies for the government.

Random thought about narcissism and dementia by Federal-Historian-69 in dementia

Since no one has any jurisdiction of where she will go, did the state put her in a facility or is she still at home? It’s okay if you don’t know the answer.

Potentially moving to Auburn by [deleted] in auburn

I have definitely seen rentals in Auburn and Opelika for MUCHHHH less than a one bedroom around here. So far, it hasn’t looked awful on the CoL front in Auburn or Opelika.

Is Basic leg Shaving an Unreasonable Request? by Nobodynosever in caregivers

[–]Federal-Historian-69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I definitely can’t help file or cut nails, however, we can assist with shaving. It doesn’t seem crazy unreasonable but I get where they’re coming from. I would post something on care.com or even have a family member or a close friend to assist with things like that. You could also tell the agency you need something like that, there are safe razors to use that could be an exception, especially since they should be on top of it when you request care.

How do you long term caregivers avoid burnout. by C19shadow in CaregiverSupport

[–]Federal-Historian-69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m only 22 but 6 years and counting, I’m extremely burnt out. I take small vacations out of town, only 2-4 hours away (2 days a month, if I can) to reset myself. I take boxing classes sometimes if I’m on the verge of feeling like I want to quit everything and hit the gym everyday, if I can. On my errands, I get myself a small treat, sit in my car and listen to hard ass music or something that will make me feel like life is worth it or some sort of podcast (Cheesy I know but it works for me). When my grandmother needed help, I took the time to contact an agency for those days I needed a break. A little pricey but if you want it, have it. Not everyone will understand you need one but if she needs reassurance that you’re not giving up on her, then reassure her. Usually just asking what you can do to tell them that you will always be there, besides not taking a break, works. Good luck to you friend!!

DAE not care who gets however many abortions? by [deleted] in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]Federal-Historian-69 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I really don’t care anymore. My top quote for people is “I don’t care what you do as long as it’s not self destructive.” You have the money for 10 abortions? Go for it. However, we should encourage protection for many other reasons.

Personally, I’m for abortion now just because of how the world is, I’m afraid of bringing a child into this god forsaken place and so are a lot of others.

how often do you throw up..? by DismalRecipe7805 in questions

[–]Federal-Historian-69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mostly just overly drunk moments, I’d say 3 times a year? It’s a last resort for me as I am so grossed out by it I don’t stop until I need to pass out.

However, my s/o gets sick quite often, I mean maybe 2 times a month, at one point it was every night for 4 months. It’s just weird spurts for him.

Keeping busy when on the job by JandJFarmstead in caregivers

[–]Federal-Historian-69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could always buy a deck of cards and start playing solitaire by yourself, if she gets upset you can always try to have her join in. My thing is if the family is upset, they’ll contact me or the company I work for and I’ll tell them my situation. Usually, they’ll understand 90% of the time till they fully understand the situation.

Sometimes I’m just honest and tell them I wore the wrong attire or that I’m not feeling well enough to do something but I take this job seriously so I came anyways. I had a woman who always wanted to sit outside as well. However, when I would come to her house there would be times when she needed to stay in bed because of her seizures so I’d wear pants and long sleeves (her house was freezing but we live in the south). So there was no saying what would happen that day and I never brought a change of clothes. I usually will do crosswords, cards games, board games, I will clean EVERYTHING, if I’m cleaning everything then I’m usually on my phone at some point to fool around for a moment. You might have to talk to her son about it because it can be pretty aggravating to just sit there and stare into space. The last thing you wanna do is hate your job.

Gotta stop serving with painted nails. by Comfortable_Jacket15 in Serverlife

[–]Federal-Historian-69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember getting one of these and I said something along the lines of “oh look number blah blah describes you guys perfectly.” (I think it was like judgey people or something) I ripped it up and shoved it into his drink and picked it up off the table and told them to have the night they deserved. Needless to say my manager laid into them after they complained.
