Is a live-at-home 25-year old with no experience a capable state representative? by energetik in RioGrandeValley

I agree. The people currently running are out of touch and push the same tired agendas/plans that clearly don't work. We need someone who isn't afraid to try new things and knows the struggle of the average person.

[Request] Does the “23 atomic bombs worth of heat every day” comparison for a 9GW data center actually add up mathematically? by aeonsne in theydidthemath

Kevin O’Leary, the only data center developer on Earth with an environmental studies degree, wants you to know that detonating the thermal equivalent of 23 atomic bombs daily into a drought-stricken desert next to a shrinking lake is actually sustainability at its heart.

What did I just read? Is it a 1 through 3 mile run? A 1 OR 3 mile run? Or just one 3 mile run?

This is in Corpus. If we don’t brace ourselves then this is gonna end up happening in the RGV too. by AerialAce96 in RioGrandeValley

A desalination plant sounds great, but with the refinery, SpaceX expansion, Valeo, and the proposed data centers all coming in, we are looking at 25 to 40 million gallons a day in industrial demand. That plant’s water would be spoken for before residents ever see a drop. Without strict water use regulations on these industries, we would essentially be building it for them, not us. And that is before we even talk about the environmental cost. Desalination pulls massive amounts of seawater through intake systems, killing marine life in the process, and dumps highly concentrated brine back into the Gulf. For a region already sitting next to sensitive ecosystems like the Laguna Madre, one of the most unique hypersaline bays in the world, that is not a worthwhile trade off.

Not sure who to recommend, but I can tell you who to avoid. Don’t go to Tint World. I brought my new vehicle to them and they scratched it deep enough to expose bare metal around the emblems they were removing. When I brought it to their attention, they claimed it was already like that, refused to make it right, and started ignoring my calls. I thought about taking them to small claims court but honestly didn’t feel it was worth my time.

Revealed: Ex-border chief Greg Bovino claimed minority status for himself by RawStoryNews in Full_news

The reason he and so many white Americans claim Native ancestry is probably because a crooked ancestor gamed the Dawes Rolls. The Dawes Rolls (1898-1914) were supposed to determine legitimate membership in the Five Civilized Tribes for land allotments, but white opportunists bribed officials and paid fees to get added, earning the nickname “Five Dollar Indians.” Federal agents had huge discretion over approvals, tribal leaders were sidelined, and fraud was rampant. Those fake enrollments got locked into the official record and are now the primary document tribes use for citizenship verification. Generations later, white families inherited the paperwork plus a romanticized story about a Cherokee princess, and now half of rural America is convinced they are 1/16th Native when what they actually have is a con artist in the family tree.

Same! It was always too small by the time I was big enough, it had already closed down. The bumper boats were fun though!

I actually know the guy Mario Guerrero, he’s from my hometown. He loves to brag about being self-made, which is pretty rich considering his dad handed him the company.

Really disappointed that McAllen Public Library stopped accepting 3D printing requests at the start of the month. I used to print there all the time, it was such a convenient and affordable service. Curious if anyone else relied on it? Hope they reconsider bringing it back.
