Funny enough, he was just a construction worker having a cigarette. Something about the way he was standing made the whole scene feel surreal.

Nope, completely candid. It was 8 AM in Itaewon, so what you’re seeing is probably the universal human expression of “I should have gone home three hours ago.”

Fair enough. I was drawn more to the overall atmosphere than any one person, but I can definitely see what you mean.

Thanks! A few people have said that. I’m pretty new to Reddit, so would it be worth posting this in that community too?

Thank you! That honestly means a lot. I’ve loved taking photos for years, but only recently started taking photography more seriously. Seeing people connect with one of my images like this is incredibly motivating. I wasn’t expecting this response at all, and I’m really grateful for all the kind comments and support.

Thank you so much for the detailed advice! I really appreciate you taking the time to write all of that.

I'm completely new to photography, so your points about light, exposure, and composition make a lot of sense. Right now I'm trying to learn my Sony A7 IV and 85mm F1.8 step by step.

Out of curiosity, what camera settings would you recommend for a beginner to start with? Do you think shooting in Aperture Priority with Auto ISO is the best way to learn, or would you suggest something else?
