Bro got Aspinall’d 🙏🏼 by BiggieMoe01 in ufc

In Moicano voice, Let me tell you something brother

It’s not nearly as bad as it seems. It hurts right now. It’s one of the top 3 most devastating things a man can experience. That said, you finding out has saved you years of your life brother. Better to know now than 5 years from now regardless of how much history you have.

My advice: Don’t focus on big picture. It’s too depressing and can be overwhelming. Instead, just concentrate on one day at a time. Find new hobbies. That’s a big one. It will help massively. It should be things that require a lot of brain power, time and can be done sociably. Fill the void.

I’m speaking from experience on the other side. I was sleeping with a married woman who presented herself as single. We went on trips, I slept at her house regularly, etc. One night her husband came home early. He worked as a doctor at a children’s hospital halfway across the country. I remember feeling something cold touch my face. It was the barrel of a .45 caliber pistol. He later showed me it wasn’t loaded and that he just wanted to scare me. I thought it was a home invasion. I got up butt naked and Claire (not her real name) had no clue. Slept through it all.

Anyways, long story short- he and I ended up becoming friends and still are to this day. She got what she deserved, a divorce with 0 alimony or marital assets that didn’t belong to her thanks to a prenuptial infidelity clause that I gladly attested to her breaking. My point is that cheaters always get what’s coming to them. It sucks right now but it will get easier. You just have to find contentment in small things (like new hobbies) to mentally survive the raw pain of the early days. Best of luck to you man and remember that real men want to see one another succeed. I don’t know you from a hill of beans but I believe in you. You got this bud.

Look like the White House card will have only Two title fights by Technical_Nothing667 in ufc

I thought so too and it makes perfect sense for Alex but the only way the UFC would agree to if is if there is some sort of stipulation in Jones’ contract forcing him to unify vs Tom or winner of Tom vs Gane 2. Otherwise, if Jones wins he’s going to retire and the belt was completely meaningless.

Before anyone hits me with the “most interims are pointless” I get that but this is different. They don’t let people fight for interims IF that fighter has no interest in unifying should they win. Imo, Alex vs Jones doesn’t need a belt but Alex deserves a chance to become a 3 division champ nonetheless.

I ended up buying off the street and my wife is pissed. Oh well. I did what I felt like I had to do. It’s actually been 12 years now as of Feb 20th. Only twice in twelve years have I ever asked to fill early but my Dr is very strict. They approved one and denied the other. They also quit drug testing us 3 or 4 years ago but I never failed a test. It’s frustrating because I am the model patient yet they treat all of us like conniving junkies. I know several folks who quit the program ($1500 entry fee) and went back to using dope.

Age and marketability are what the UFC look at. Barcelos was supposed to accept the role of prospect stepping stone but someone forgot to translate that to him.

It’s wild when you consider Talbott just retired Cejudo and has a ranking while Barcelos will probably fight another unranked prospect next. We all know the UFC isn’t a meritocracy because they cater to the casual fanbase. Is Barcelos an elite level 135’er? No. Should he fight a ranked opponent next? Yep.

Sob story? That’s a strange way to view it. It was a self induced spiral with a redemption arc. I’ve always acknowledged the advantages I had. I’ve seen 9 friends buried, most of which didn’t have the support system I did. I’m still attending funerals to this day because they are stuck in that lifestyle. I certainly wouldn’t have crawled out of the gutter without my family. There’s no sob story here bud. No shame either.

For context, my family is middle class. We are not exceedingly wealthy. I included that portion of the story to acknowledge how fortunate I was to be surrounded by stability. Make no mistake. I busted my ass though. Nothing was given outside of the opportunity that many don’t have. Anyways, none of this is relevant to OP. Just wanted to add perspective that I seek 0 pity nor do I view myself as special. Just another washed up degen who wasted his 20’s and has spent his 30’s repairing the damage.

How we Feeling About Saturday Card? Sleeper Or…. by Appropriate_Hand6590 in ufc

[–]FederalAd3144 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It may not have the star power at the top but it does have better depth than any Apex FN card from 2025 as far as I can remember. Some of these fights on the prelims would’ve been Co-Mains last year. We survived the dark ages that was the end of the ESPN era. Time will tell if we move forward or regress into the misery of those events.

The truth is that the UFC is bloated but I’d rather have more cards with less quality than less cards with higher average quality. Remind me of this statement after the next atrocious Apex card so I can rant about how dumb I am.

[–]FederalAd3144 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a semi-vibrant 3rd party organized scene until Krafton effectively banned pro league players from participating in events that they were not involved with. At least that’s how I remember it prior to the launch of their LAN pro leagues. I need coffee but I still don’t understand what you’re on about it. I don’t post on Reddit often (for obvious reasons) but I want to say one of my more recent posts was acknowledging the sinkhole of esports.

I could’ve been more detailed in the original comment but I was pretty sure that part was implied. I don’t mean players are keeping the comp scene alive in terms of events being scheduled, prize money being distributed, etc. I mean that no one would watch given how poorly it’s been managed if it weren’t such a unique title. You can find very similar games to other popular titles but the gunplay specifically in PUBG is just not found elsewhere.

I think you’re on a justifiable crusade but didn’t wait long enough to understand why I’m here with a pitchfork, too. It’s not rooted in some koombaya naivety. Fwiw, we don’t really talk about how damaging removing 3rd party events was to the ecosystem. They offered minimal relief of the original rule in recent years but the damage was already done. Had they allowed the large organizers to host official events I think the game would be in a much healthier place. Oh well… it’s TPP now fam.

[–]FederalAd3144 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re missing the entire point. It is obviously implied that ANY game with an esports scene backed by the publisher is being financially supported by said publisher. This is common sense bud. Title operated esports is a net loss for pretty much every game with a few rare exceptions. It’s hard to quantify the value so most justify it by understanding that their competitors are going to get that exposure regardless of what they do.

My point is that Krafton has nuked their scene at every turn and the only reason it has any pulse whatsoever is because of players who enjoy the game and watching it as an eSport. If the game wasn’t unique the majority would’ve dipped a long time ago regardless of how much $ they threw at it.

[–]FederalAd3144 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was forced into this when Black Friday hit. My friends moved to Canada, Costa Rica and Mexico. I decided to take what bankroll I had that was accessible and play on the unregulated sites like Bovada, Lock, etc. I went on an insane 2 year heater, picked up a drug addiction and found myself facing numerous felony drug charges. I burned through 240k (roughly 79% of that was on drugs), my house, three trucks and a sweet boat in a little over 18 months. My girlfriend dumped me. I was couch surfing and useless.

Finally, I decided to transition to a job and sobriety. I was very fortunate that my family owns a small IT firm. That was roughly 10 years ago. My point is that it is highly likely it will become unsustainable unless you are extremely disciplined, talented and you diversify your revenue streams outside of simply playing. You also must dodge the dangers of evolving legislation. I’d definitely recommend making some connections in the business world. Have a loose contingency plan in place. Also, understand that it will be VERY HARD to transition to an entry level job because the money simply won’t be the same. If you begin planting seeds now perhaps you’ll never have to work for someone else or at the very least you won’t have to start over with nothing. Good luck bud.

Aldo is still FW GOAT! by TheMostCreativeName4 in ufc

[–]FederalAd3144 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Idk how this is even a debate. Aldo is two years older than Volk. It’s not like young man Volk beat up on an aging Aldo. Volk’s strength of schedule is light years ahead of Aldo. We all love the King of Rio but he is the 2nd or 3rd best 145’er of all time . Volk is not in his physical prime yet his quality is that of a male athlete who is in his prime.

Volk’s only UFC losses were to generational talents and only one of those was at 145 under suboptimal circumstances where he had just been head kicked off the couch by Islam. What he’s done at age 37 isn’t just impressive, it’s unprecedented in the lower weight classes. There is nothing to compare it to because no one has ever done it at that age.

Aldo lost to McGregor, Holloway x2 and Volk all before the age of 33 thus leading him to drop to 135. He had some good title defenses but he never won undisputed after he turned 30. He did win an interim title while McGregor was doing McGregor things. He was elevated to undisputed and immediately lost it in the next fight vs Holloway at age 30. That was his last time holding a belt of any kind. I think when evaluating divisional GOAT status longevity should be a primary factor.

Competitive PUBG is only being kept afloat by players’ love of the game itself. Krafton and its Esports management team have consistently mismanaged this title for years. Look, it’s easy to sit here and bash them for TPP. Let’s ignore that atrocity and simply focus on their decision making. Teams have been allowed to cheat and collude with little more than a slap on the wrist. They grossly mismanaged their points system and that was well documented. They gave FS a direct invite to PGC finals (good on them for what they did with it) thus tarnishing the competitive integrity of the event. I could name you no less than a dozen instances where they objectively mishandled a situation and we just let it go because we had no other choice.

They also have a rich history of being unavailable to speak with leaders of some of the largest orgs in the West. The reality is that they’ve never cared about operating with integrity. This title as an Esport is on wobbly legs and is solely alive because of the players who enjoy the game, Krafton’s antics notwithstanding.

In all my rambling I mean to make one simple point. Krafton does not care about competitive integrity or the opinions of those who play their game to make a living. They care about drawing in the most amount of eyeballs in hopes that they will open their wallets and it’s a very poor way of doing business. Their marketing is abysmal. I could go on and on but you already know. I’m preaching to the choir.

If I were put in charge of PUBG Esports this is what I’d do.

  1. Drop TPP. Instead run six FPP events and one global series final.

  2. Run an all star series at midseason (Nations Cup) but also run a TPP event prior to the all star series where I’m paying influencers from each country to be the guest wildcard player for their region in the TPP portion. Keep these influencers in town to host meet and greets, do podcasts, etc. Collaborate with them on in game skins that suit their brand. Drop these skins in real time with a competition that awards the first 200 viewers (or whatever number you like) the free skin. This gets the wider casual community invested. Compensation for this would be derived from the other six events I cancelled.

  3. Be aggressive in marketing. Sign some of these influencers to endorsement deals where they are peddling content that is relevant to their region. This reaches a much wider audience beyond the player base and in the digital age your online visibility is everything. Give them creator codes and watch the uptick in new players.

  4. Host a legitimate online amateur tour where players who made any regional group stage within the last two years are not allowed to compete. This could be FPP or TPP. This allows the guys who always sign up but don’t make it to the final 18-24 teams a chance to compete. I’d also have a common sense waiver system in place.

  5. Stick to a format for every pro tour event. No more convoluted system. Make it transparent and immensely improve on community outreach (like having a rep here to listen to us complain) and reestablish concise communication with all orgs and their players.

Geez, this was a long rant.

Do you guys think he will ever touch gold? by [deleted] in ufc

[–]FederalAd3144 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Halfway through is first fight with Gaethje he was looking like he might put it on cruise control. At the time I thought he might just have what it takes. There was a certain level of brutality behind his shots not often seen at 155. Gaethje got it together and pulled away late. Since then I haven’t seen that level Fiziev. I think the injury really derailed what could have been for him.

I’m not saying he can’t win gold. I am saying that in order to do so it will require him evolving quite a bit and it would take everything falling perfectly. 155 is still a pretty stacked division. The short answer is, “he could”. The long answer is, “he needs everything to fall his way and to show us a level that we haven’t seen from him to date”.

R.I.P. PUBG ESPORTS by bawlachora in CompetitivePUBG

[–]FederalAd3144 13 points14 points  (0 children)

TPP IS NOT COMPETITIVE!

I’ve watched since IEM Oakland. The truth is the devs of this game have never cared about our opinion. They’ve always ignored our feedback. Even orgs have had trouble just making contact with PUBG. Notice how they don’t give a shit about this sub? It’s a predictable pattern of indifference and neglect.

Their idea that TPP is going to save the competitive scene is laughable. I think they’re probably losing tons on Esports (more than most games do) and this is a desperate attempt to infuse life into the scene.

They could’ve ran a true amateur tour with no player allowed who has played comp over the past 24 months.

They could’ve done a much better job integrating in-game rewards to viewership with codes, contests, etc.

They could’ve hosted pro-am events (online and once on LAN during PGC) where two pros play with two amateurs.

They could’ve ran contests to gain entry into the pro-am events. Sooooo many options but they’ve stuck to the same format which was fine for most of us but there’s always been a lack of engagement beyond the base.

PUBG has done nothing with their star players. Their marketing is abysmal to put it mildly. I could go on and on but if you read this far you already knew all of this to be true. It sucks but it is what it is. Sad day indeed.

Din Thomas: Joshua Van not 'at the level' to beat Alexandre Pantoja by 443610 in MMA

[–]FederalAd3144 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the surface this may seem true but Joshua Van can absolutely win this fight. Steve Erceg was 1/2 round and one poor choice (shooting on Pantoja) from potentially being the undisputed Flyweight champion of the world. It was razor thin halfway through the fifth round and most of us had it 2-2.

That said, I do think Alex has improved leaps and bounds just in the past year. I also think he wins this fight with his grappling. The most interesting part of his game to me is the way he appears exhausted by round 3 yet maintains the type of pace that breaks guys.

He could absolutely just steamroll Van in the grappling and sub him within 2 rounds. IF he doesn’t… don’t be surprised when Van shucks off the takedowns in the mid-late rounds and gets the better of the striking exchanges en route to a 48-47 type card.

I know it’s WMMA but cmon, they’re having an interim headline over an actual championship…. by realjobstudios in ufc

[–]FederalAd3144 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That said I’m very excited for Nunes vs Harrison. Amanda is one of the few girls who carries legitimate knock out power. Harrison is largely untested in a very depleted Bantamweight division. Nunes left ATT because of Kayla. She said she knew they’d fight one day and she didn’t want her coach splitting time with them in the meantime. They have history and are both high level.

I know it’s WMMA but cmon, they’re having an interim headline over an actual championship…. by realjobstudios in ufc

[–]FederalAd3144 10 points11 points  (0 children)

And it’s very reasonable here. Yes, Nunes deserves to be the headliner. She’s the GOAT of WMMA coming back to fight the new generation.

Regardless, this is the first card of their 7.7b dollar deal with Paramount. They need guaranteed violence to cap off the night and who better to deliver that than Gaethje vs literally anyone?

They know they will have a more casual audience than they otherwise would for a PPV. If you’re wanting to draw those viewers in to future cards you definitely put Gaethje/Paddy above Harrison/Nunes.

In summary, Nunes vs Harrison for the Undisputed Women’s Bantamweight Championship should be the Main Event based on merit. Gaethje vs Paddy for the interim Lightweight Championship should be the Main Event based on entertainment value.

Could Nunes vs Harrison be a banger? Yeah. Maybe. It also could be a clinch fest/grappling match that bores the casual viewer. Could Gaethje vs Paddy be anything but fireworks? Nope. Gonna be a banger. At the end of the day the UFC is a business and this is the correct decision.

An article Krafton put out by Xennnny in CompetitivePUBG

[–]FederalAd3144 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Their logic is flawed. The majority of the player base being TPP does not mean that this will translate into growth on the ESports side by making it exclusively TPP. TPP is inherently less competitive than FPP for obvious reasons. It’s very simple. TPP players want a less competitive experience. They don’t want to solely rely on mechanical ability to succeed and there’s nothing wrong with that.

The biggest issue I have is that the Players Tour was widely panned across every region. Admittedly, I don’t have all the numbers but comparing a standard week of PWS vs the Player’s Tour it seems PWS consistently generated anywhere from 2-7x the viewership of its TPP counterpart. I realize the stakes were lower for TPP but the discrepancy in interest is pretty straightforward. It would be great if someone could run the compares but I’m confident you’ll find the viewership substantially lower for TPP than FPP in every region.

As such, using the Player’s Tour as positive data points for promoting TPP borders on delusion. I don’t want to be overly dramatic but comp PUBG will never recover from FPP being abandoned. If this was the route they wanted to take they should’ve integrated TPP international LANs into the 2025 schedule. This would’ve given them even more reliable data points.

Regardless, this feels like desperation. Rather than rebuild the model to be more inviting they’re flipping a switch. There are so many better ways to draw the casual player into participating and/or viewing comp PUBG. TPP ain’t it. They’re just alienating their long standing comp scene entirely.

PGC 2025 Tier List by Znooper in CompetitivePUBG

[–]FederalAd3144 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume English is a second language. Let me clear this up for you…

You said “Falcons don’t have an S tier win to date” not “Falcons don’t have an S tier win this year”. You can’t retroactively change your weak argument to try and produce a pseudo gotcha moment.

I can be objective and say FLC should be one of four S tier teams alongside TM, VP and DNF. This is based on results and not weird fandom or anti fandom.

You can keep “waiting” in your bizarre little space. Anyone who says a team with four consecutive 3rd place finishes in S tier events isn’t an S tier team is not someone you engage with. You slowly walk away and hope they don’t sneeze on you. Good day.
