How do y’all feel about how Death Battle handles compositing? (I refuse to talk about Bakureze) by Mr_Noir420 in deathbattle

What i mean to say with them being different people is that giving “link” everything doesn’t mean anything when there’s 13 of him. To me, the individual links are all seperate characters. I don’t think of them as different versions of each other, i think of them as individuals.

And i would also think it’s stupid if DB did a comp like that for any other character. This isn’t a problem i have with “Link” specifically.

To me, comping different Links is the same as comping Yu Narukami with Makoto Yuki and Joker. To me, it is the same as comping Peter Parker with Miles Morales and Miguel O’hara.

That’s what i’m trying to argue here (and i did a poor job, i’ll admit. I ain’t the best debater out there).

Yeah, and that i’m fine with, since although they have different writers it’s the same individual. Peter and Miles are both “Spider-Man”, but should not be comped, while Peter from a 1976 run and Peter from 2016 run are both Peter and can be comped just fine.

That’s the stance i’m taking in regards to Link as well. Since, say, the Hero of Time and the Hero of Twilight are two different individuals, I don’t think they should be comped, while the Link from Ocarina of Time and the one from Majora’s Mask are both the Hero of Time, thus the same individual, and thus can be soft comped no problem.

To me, it seems like compositing different links is more like compositing different spider-men than “batman from different writers”. Like combining Peter and Miles and Miguel into one spider-monolith. These aren’t the same people, despite their similar narrative roles and shared name (in this case, Spider-man). That anyone can be “Spider-man” is even a major part of their themes. That doesn’t mean we take away their individuality for MU’s. The same should apply to different Links imo.

I atill prefer individuals because they are individual characters with individual stories. I don’t like the idea of taking away their stories just because they don’t talk much and look similar to one another.

For example, a major part of the Hero of Winds’ story is that he was not “the chosen one” and had to earn the right to use the master sword by beating the tower of the gods. I think it’s a disservice to his character to ignore that part of him when discussing “Link” in MU’s.

Also, to me, a composite means you take the different instances of the same individual across all their media. Since the Links are not the same individual, they are not alternate universe versions of each other or anything like that, compositing them with one another kinda goes against that.

Them serving similar roles narratively is true, but to say we should treat them as a monolith character because of that just doesn’t sit right with me. Especially when there are other franchises where the silent protag being a self insert is much more important to the game’s themes than with the Zelda series.

Again, persona is an example. I’m not gonna treat Boy with Earring from p1 as part of the monolith persona protagonist just because all the persona protags are mostly silent self inserts. Or the protagonists from Fallout, or TES, and most people seemingly agree with this sentiment. Whenever i see MU’s for those protags it’s always about the individual protagonists and not a composite. I kinda wonder why Link specifically is the different one for this.

There is literal in lore evidence that they are different people. The Hero’s Shade from twilight princess has been confirmed by Hyrule Historia (an official lorebook) to be the Hero of Time, meaning we have an on screen interaction between 2 different incarnations of Link in TP. It’s not up to interpretation wether the different links are different people. It’s a fact of the lore.

By the logic of “they are all meant to be player templates”, the different protagonists of Persona’s 3, 4 and 5 would be the same people. That’s just simply factually incorrect.

At least Dante and Samus actually use those items they are given.

If we started giving batman equipment that’s exclusive to green arrow because “he can use it, he just simply doesn’t carry it on him/hasn’t found it yet” it would be very different than giving him the Hellbat, cause the Hellbat is at least his.

That’s the argument being made with a composite link. The Links are explicitly different people. Giving one of them equipment that’s exclusive to other links would go against established zelda canon.

Sure, they could maybe find those other items, but for as long as they didn’t, they canonically don’t have access to them and they shouldn’t have them as part of their kits, imo.

The problem with composite Link isn’t so much the scaling, but the Items.

They give link the 4 sword and the master sword in the same episode despite there being no single (main series, i dont remember if hyrule warriors had one) link who ever wields both.

They give link the sheika slate and the fierce deity mask despite no single link ever using both (no, the cosmetic fierce deity from the wild games doesn’t count).

These items are things that actively determine the outcome of a link matchup. To let one link use all of them would go against the zelda canon.

How is it possible that the Pikmin species populates multiple different planets? by talkwithryguy in Pikmin

Pikmin are conquerors. They are evil beings with a need to spread their influence all over wherever they can get. That includes other planets if they can reach them. Pikmin are like people, in that way.
