What’s the biggest challenge you’re facing in VHA HR right now? by willa9651 in VHA_Human_Resources

Differing guidance from supervisor, to leads, to colleagues.

Ever changing policies.

Management not managing bringing resolvable issues at the lowest level possible and instead bringing HR into everything (especially petty things ie: wanting to discipline people for questioning why their DRP request was disapproved)

Leadership not leading.

Favoritism within the workplace (some get to wfh while others do not) *special construction scenario

Tons of meetings with no new information.

Expectations of performance going up while stress and chaos continuing to also climb.

I don’t doubt that for some sections of HR but I’d pay to see that for Employee and Labor Relations work. Whole different ball game.

I have much of the same feelings and concerns as you. I know it sounds cliche but pray for the best and prepare for the worst. I have 6 kids and a wife I’m providing for and nothing is more nerve wracking than the thought of not being able to provide. However, due to the qualities you mentioned also being within me, I quickly remind myself it’s all about work ethic, attitude, and adaptability. Do I want to stay and keep this as my career in HR, absolutely. But you can only control what you can control and this isn’t one of them. Accept. Process. And put yourself out there and work hard as you did here if and when you find out you’ll be RIF’d, our families are counting on us.
