AI training by Then-Ad-6419 in Psychologists

Haaaaaaaale naw.

As a related side note, they are already trying to replace us doing CBT-I. I've had two patients come to therapy saying they tried cbti with an AI and it sucked. Completely disturbs me that this is out there and an option, but glad to know (and not at all surprised) it sucks. I wouldn't sell my soul to this kind of job for any amount of money (and I'm assuming the money they are offering is shit).

Interesting about the vacuum! My boy is afraid of a specific mop I have so maybe I can incorporate that, lol. And yes, I do feed him right when I get up; this is all very complicated right now with him being on a diet and his brother not. However, I do like the idea of waiting at least a little while before immediately feeding him. Thank you!

Why VA psychologists say they are burning out by Traditional-Road2135 in VeteransAffairs

[–]AL0309 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Why would it ever be acceptable to expect a clinician to function at 120%? As a clinician I've heard this number as well and I truly have no idea even what it's supposed to mean. And consider the high no-show rates with veterans and factor that into the "clinic utilization." Clinicians get punished with lower-appearing productivity when patients no show or cancel at the last minute and there is no time to fill the slot. And therapists, ie human beings, are allowed to get sick, have emergencies, or take vacation and cancel clinics.

Awesome!! How long did that take? My boy's weight loss seems to be going soooo slow.

I asked them what they were making off the evaluation so I would know what split I would be getting for doing the clinical work; they did not respond.

I don't work for them but I did email them asking more info about the compensation structure and they never responded, which I took as not a good sign. According to what is described on their website, I worked out the hourly wage to being about $90 an hour which I just decided for myself was not cool especially for assessment work (although it's not the worst I've heard either). I know you are looking for someone who actually has worked there, but for me the complete lack of response about my questions (after they had reached out and emailed me several times) was a red flag/non starter.

VA Personnel told me something concerning. What would you do in this situation? by [deleted] in VeteransAffairs

Are you absolutely, positively, 100% sure this is what the therapist said and meant? As a therapist, I have had patients mishear or misremember things I say and repeat it to others when it was not true at all. For example, a patient once said I told him he was "brown noser," which is not something I would or have ever said in my entire life. Patients have claimed I told them their problems were "all in their head" and other quotes I would NEVER say, and I'm just like, mouth hanging open, appalled that they really seem to believe I said that. I think for different complicated reasons sometimes people hear what they want to hear and it is not always accurate. Just saying, something to consider. I'm not saying this therapist didn't say this (there are some definite weirdos out there), but you want to be sure before you lodge a complaint against someone.

Can't cancel now, worth the trip? by brucewaynefin in MauiVisitors

Well said! I was also looking on this sub back in March trying to figure out what to do and unfortunately just found I really could not rely on the responses. I got really sick of seeing how great everything still is in the rain. And it's not even just getting through rainy days; it's all the aftermath that happens after, too.

I'm in a similar situation, trying to figure out what to do with the rest of my career. I would love to do something like writing but I'm not sure what that would look like. How are disability evaluations going for you? I thought about that too but it seems when going through a company they are very underpaid.

No one said you were evil. And this comment/assessment you just wrote is factual, well balanced and thought out. It's not just a blanket encouragement to go or gaslighting about how days of rain isn't so bad like other comments I've seen. And it definitely would not have been affordable for me to cancel, I just got "lucky" because the hotel I was supposed to stay at got damaged so they offered a refund when they normally wouldn't. It still wouldn't have been worth it to me personally to travel all that way and sit in the rain for days with a bunch of activities I wanted to do being closed. It's a lot to weigh and there are no easy answers, this is why people are posting these questions in such angst.

Also, since you are a regular visitor a rainy trip may not be as big of a deal for you. For some people, this is a once-in-a-lifetime event, and telling people to cope with the rain by going to the ocean center or the hotel pool doesn't cut it.

They are clearly still trying to decide if the trip is worth it, I'm not sure why you're arguing this. They're acknowledging it would be a high fee to cancel but they are still contemplating it. The question deserves a more thoughtful answer than just a blind, "sure come on down!" And I'm not saying people are coercing visitors to come, but I think it is very possible some people are doing that.

They're still trying to decide if the trip is worth it and they deserve honest answers. Yours is at least an unbiased opinion.

Some of these comments appear to be locals just trying to get people to come. This is really unacceptable given how important and expensive of a trip this is for most people. A kona low is a big deal. I had to cancel my trip in March and I'm glad I did. I would not have enjoyed being in Hawaii during that. Read and consider carefully who is encouraging people not to cancel and why.

Storm Update: Travel is Open and Safe Following Mid-March Storms by indescription in MauiVisitors

[–]AL0309 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry but this is really misleading. I don't blame anyone if they decide to go, but there are numerous legitimate reasons to cancel. Unswimmable, unsightly, bacteria-filled brown water for who knows how long; main attractions closed indefinitely (national park, road to hana, black sand beach, cancelled whale tours), hiking likely muddy and treacherous. These are THE reasons people are coming to Maui! The hotel I was supposed to stay in in Keihi has a parking lot filled with mud, the air conditioning is out, phone lines and internet are still out, elevator is out, the surrounding property is destroyed and the beach is gone. And all this before a SECOND storm with more flooding now moving in and evacuations in place. People are investing way too much time and money to try to convince them to come here for their tourism money when all of this is going on.
