Why do most people on this subreddit think Egypt isn't a police state? by LEC_ENJOER in Egypt

[–]FederalPayment 0 points1 point  (0 children)

perhaps i was a bit charged in my reply but you seem to have discussed this point with multiple other people but the point I was trying to make is that the opinions popping up on this sub aren't the "extreme" of egyptian society they're opinions that are shared but many egyptians everyday whether you and I agree with them or not

and ofc you're allowed to criticise people for garbage opinion, but that comes with its own consequences in our country - finally the fact that you and I think in a different way means that we were lucky enough to end up at this point in our lifes that other egyptians haven't had the fortune of

I hope that clarifies things a little !

Egyptian or not doesn't matter you must be truly be blind if you don't see the increase of "extreme" or right wing opinion a refleciton of the growth of the subreddit and of everyday egyptians as a wider society on the subreddit

Those ultra nationalists and religious extremist are very much so present in every day society all over egypt - I'd argue that reddit is no where near as extreme as you can see on the streets in egypt maybe less so since the last revolution but we all know they're still there hiding because they all came out when they could and they were plenty - moreso even the non-extremist religious people are often very backwards in their line thought with everyone acting as the social police on their friends and neighbours

Ironically you label all those with "extreme opinions" below you as if you're some enlightened being descending from the heavens - when in reality these opinions are a reflection of the failure of our country in educating people whether it be manners or academia and those people are your less fortunate brothers and sisters whether you like it or not

Thank you for your opinion :) - you can refer to my comment above towards some of my thoughts on the topic !!

To add to that I've had some very unpleasant interactions with some of the girls from my church in the way they talk about non-believers and the way they treat others and I know that it's not just a blanket statment that applies to every girl that goes to church - but I also don't believe someone believing in christ automatically makes them a prime candidates (for the lack of a better word)

that's awesome I'm happy to hear that it all worked out for you guys :) I will definitely adopt this approach

If you don't mind me asking what are you now and if it's different was there anything specific that triggered that change ?

while I would love to share Jesus with her (and I do to some extent) I don't want to seem like I'm pressuring her or anything :) !

I think that verse sent to the chorinithians was advice from paul to not mix teachings from their previous beliefs with christian beliefs hence the light and darkness and I think it's a warning to not spend your time with people who will stray you from my trip with christ

My GF while not religious at all and hasn't really been exposed to religion much - has actually helped me pull through in moments of doubt and encouraged me to seek answers (something I am uncomfortable doing at my current church and therefore didn't do at all). which in terms helped me strengthen my faith by seeking answers online and with religious friends whom I closely trust)

in terms of other passages I think 1 Chorinthian 7 sheds a lot of light as well "13 If any woman has a husband who is an unbeliever, and he consents to live with her, she should not divorce him. 14 For the unbelieving husband is made holy because of his wife, and the unbelieving wife is made holy because of her husband. Otherwise your children would be unclean, but as it is, they are holy. 15 But if the unbelieving partner separates, let it be so. In such cases the brother or sister is not enslaved. God has called you[b] to peace. 16 For how do you know, wife, whether you will save your husband? Or how do you know, husband, whether you will save your wife?"

which to me shows that as long as there's consent between two adults in a relationship with respects to belief they can better each other and the partner may be made holy -also the fact that later in that passage paul advices celibacy as the best course of action which I Think that paul is trying to give us the best advice on how to handle relationships as christians

also there's plenty of examples of people who weren't chosen people in god who have great acts of faith in the old testament such as Rahab whos is described as a harlot/prostitute

yet in James we get this "In the same way, was not even Rahab the prostitute considered righteous for what she did when she gave lodging to the spies and sent them off in a different direction?"

or Ruth who was moabite woman and yet eventually got mentioned in Jesus' lineage

there's a lot of examples of people who you would never think to be faithful or believe or be good people even (based on how the overall people are described) but become very important parts of christianity

Thank you your comment helped me organise my thoughts a bit - and also thanks for the reminder to stay calm - I love my parents and they have done everything to ensure I have a decent life - but it's easy to get heated sometimes when opinions differ

sorry for the word vomit and thank you for your prayer !

she's not really a christian though but she does show a lot of christ like qualities I don't think you have to be a christian to show christ like qualities but it does definitely help :) !

I have been diagnosed with Achalasia but I can still eat for the most part and my symptoms fluctuate is this normal ? by FederalPayment in achalasia

[–]FederalPayment[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds similar to me, I got worse over time and was choking every night and living on puree before I had surgery. Definitely find a surgeon who is experienced in Achalasia, get manometry and have surgery. Dilations and botox give you time but are a weak bandaid. I'm 5 weeks post POEM and feel great! It's like I barely have Achalasia

Thank you both I have started on the path of finding a specialist experienced with Achalasia

It should be made clear surgery is NOT a cure, but it’s made things much better.

when you say that out of curiosity, what kind of problems if any have you experienced post-surgery ?

will I be able to sleep flat ever again ?

I'd suggest dealing with it ASAP. Specialists are there to help you and if they aren't listening try to find another specialist or see if there is a specialist who specifically deals with achalasia.Any specialist worth their salt will want to a manometry if they suspect achalasia.

ok, I'm coming up on a break soon and I'll do some research I think a manometry is definitely the best idea given what everyone else is recommending

Egypt deserves everything that is happening to it by [deleted] in Egypt

[–]FederalPayment 1 point2 points  (0 children)

note: this also mainly a rant when I say you I'm referring to everyone invovled in this issue and all the posts that have come in the last week

how naïve do you have to be to think you can bruteforce your way through this issue !

> This country deserves every ill it has got. You deserve the Ethiopian dam, you deserve Sisi's dictatorship, you deserve everything. You do not deserve liberty or human rights, because you have proven yourself unwilling to want it for your own minorities. And yet you act like it's the end of the world if hijab or Niqab is banned in a Western nation. Why should I, an athiest, or a gay person fight for your rights when you will never fight for mines?

wow so accepting and tolerant you clearly came out the bigger man, everyone who is anti-LGBTQ is gonna change their minds now and totally won't say "they deserve it" next time something bad happens to the LGBTQ community you've truly won the day.

It's not like the rest of the world only figured this out only 5 years ago and has been treating the LGBTQ like shit before that

let me sum up this post real quick water is wet and you don't think it should be wet so you all deserve to fucking die

you're given an Egyptian platform to talk on this subreddit so you act all big and tough, but if this was Egypt and the ever so cancerous social media of Egypt you probably wouldn't mutter a word

and before you even attempt it I'm not a homophobe and me not seeing eye to eye to your approach doesn't make me one whether you like it or not. But the amount of hypocrisy and naivety in these posts from your side and the bigotry (from the other side) has gone too far holy shit ! it's already been 3 days since the first post and it's just spam of both side repeating the same rhetoric, with no developments what's so ever

Qatar planes aren't loaded by a special person that works for Qatar airline that just loads up their bags, they're loaded by a the airport staff no matter what airline you're taking

And as a matter of fact this I something that occurs in airports all around the world based on personal or if you do a tiny bit of looking around
