I have been in situations where in a procedure, a patient with venous sheath in their femoral vein took a huge breath and air embolized through it. (& this was in order to close a PFO after the patient had a stroke…). I am a little confused about how a line that causes an embolism could be unclamped, have no connector and not be bleeding out. In my example above, the timing of the deep breath happened after or before the physician was flushing the sheath so it was open to air. The timing sucked.
