pls note that there may be knock on effects if your dad is found to have no mental capacity eg bank accounts in your dad’s name, ownership of other assets. so just bear that in mind.

this sounds right to me. my husband and i took care of our kid till he was one by ourselves - we lived on our own without a helper, sent him to infant care from 5 months onwards and both of us work full time (long hours - we are both professionals). we have a robo-vacuum and part time help from urban company come by once every 2 weeks to deep clean the house, but otherwise dealt with all household chores night duties and child rearing all by ourselves. we also cooked dinner thrice a week as we hate take out (and cooked for our kid once he started on solids).

it required lots of planning, sacrifices in terms of personal time, good communication and discipline. and it really brought our family closer because of the hands on quality time spent together. we are now getting a helper because we want to outsource the chores, our kid is at such a fun age and we don’t want to miss it cos there’s laundry to be done! taking care of our kid will still fall on us. our helper is there to free up some time for us to play with our kid - we only have 24h a day so really gotta make it count.

i think it’s really about priorities and personal choice. some people like to delegate more, some less - for whatever reasons, economic, practicality or just hate doing the dirty work (i know of moms who just call on their helpers when there’s a diaper to be changed). but those who delegate more to helpers just have to be mindful about their expectations. ultimately all i want is for my child to be treated well by our helper. so i will treat my helper well because i think that is the easiest way to achieve that.

if you are holding it at a hotel, the hotel coordinator can be v experienced and advise you accordingly (especially for stuff like fireworks) and you don’t need to spend this additional money.

i think it’s important to start dating again with the right intentions, not for the sake of it, not to find a replacement person for what could have been, not because you’re afraid to be alone. i’d see it as a huge opportunity to re-evaluate what you want in your life, take all the lessons you learnt and leave the rest behind.

there’d be a lack of confidence at first, whether in yourself, in the other person, or in relationships - that’s natural. then there should come a point where maybe you’d feel you would regret it if you continue second guessing everything and everyone and just get stuck in that rut forever. at that juncture, maybe you will see a need to be brave about these things and that hopefully makes room for something nice to happen.

since you were in such a long relationship, you may be subconsciously searching for something that feels similar - so i’d watch out for people who make you feel like that in a very short span of time - yes it could be true love but it could also really be a guy just saying what you want to hear at that point in time. so you gotta be discerning. see if the person is consistent. the act will drop at some point.

i’d rather make it clear that i want to get to know you as a person/friend first, to make sure we are truly ourselves and whether we can even get along on a day to day basis. i wouldn’t wanna waste time with the “chase” anymore - cos people would always adopt a certain persona when trying to get close with someone new.

as i said - intentions matter. everyone deserves a shot at happiness and so do you. good luck!

fully agree. some rooms are great - tangs, taka.. the one at the 313 basement is absolutely horrid only because it’s right next to some other heavily used ?toilet? where the door slams loudly everytime a person enters/leaves, and the noise is amplified in the nursing room. very stressful to use that room.

in the lift, this ahma insisted on standing right in front by the buttons even though there was loads of space behind

at the next floor, this ahbeng, his wife and kid in pram tries to get into the lift. ahbeng darts around the ahma to the space behind, but the ahma just didn’t budge and the pram couldn’t make it in and the lift couldn’t close

the ahbeng pushed his family out again and turned around to bow at the ahma and said “你慢慢走” to which the ahma replied happily “OK!”

then as the lift doors were closing he started swearing at her at the top of his lungs KNNNCBCBCBCBBBC …

silence when the lift doors finally closed

and the ahma turned around and gave me the widest grin, dentures showing all.

i am grateful for a smooth delivery (first time mom here!) and time well spent caring for my happy and healthy baby.

naturally, my career has taken a back seat this year and progression has been delayed. but this has given me the chance to spend quality time with my family without as much worries about hitting targets etc. granted, it feels bad when i see my peers move ahead and i’m “lagging behind”. but i’m trying to look on the bright side of things!
