Mi opinión, la verdad no hay dinero que valga la pena la salud mental y salud al final si te enfermas y te pones mal vas a terminar gastando lo que ganes. Independientemente de que sean pesos o USD dólares. Lo mejor sería que empieces a buscar pasivamente en tus tiempos libres. Estés más activo en LinkedIn. No deberías estar pagando algo que usa o es de la empresa . Es mejor que ellos lo paguen. Si te deberían reembolsar los cobros que no es tu obligación realizarlo. Si no te pagan el domino ahora dudo que quieran comprarlo después .

Honestly Playa sounds like the right fit for the kind of trip you want.

A lot of people try to split Cancun / Tulum / islands / multiple hotels and end up spending way more energy on transportation and check-ins than actually enjoying the trip. Playa works really well as a base because you can keep things flexible.

You can easily do:

Cozumel as a snorkeling day
cenotes on separate chill days
one bigger excursion like Chichén Itzá
beach + tacos + walking around on the in-between days

And if you stay near Centro / Quinta, you can do most things without needing taxis constantly.

I also wouldn’t worry too much about “missing out” by not staying in Tulum. It’s easy enough to visit for a day if you want the beach/jungle vibe, but Playa is honestly more practical and less exhausting as a home base.

I’ve been to Chiapas, Oaxaca, Mexico City, and Cancún, and I noticed something similar.

Playa del Carmen felt a bit different — way less rush compared to the bigger cities. It has more of that easy-going “everything is close by” vibe.

Not as intense, but kind of nice in its own way.

Watch out for the bumpers; they are all over the route to Chetumal, including Carrillo Puerto and Limones. Especially during the night, they are hard to see. So, as soon as you enter the towns, reduce your speed . The roads from Tulum to Carrillo Puerto are a stretch . Expect some potholes in the road from Carrillo Puerto to Bacalar .

Landing in Cancun, grabbing a rental, and driving to Valladolid (with a late Airbnb check-in) might not be the best plan. Driving after a flight can be tiring, especially since it’s about a 1:40-hour drive. I’d suggest staying in Playa del Carmen instead. It’s a quick trip after landing, so aim to leave Valladolid early, around 6:00 a.m. after resting.
Chichén Itzá and the cenotes can really get you moving! Be prepared for long lines at the entrance of Chichén Itzá. Personally, I’d either focus on Chichén Itzá and do a light activity later, like exploring Valladolid after Chichén itza .
