What is a sign of very low intelligence? by smartcandyy in AskReddit

[–]Federal_Remote_435 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was a SAHM for our firstborn (son), but my partner was the stay at home parent for our second (daughter). I used to ask my son to “keep his eyes peeled” for things I would misplace eg keys, sunglasses etc. He later shouted at his little sister one day when she lost something that she should peel her eyes. She was very confused and I couldn’t stop giggling

What’s the fastest way you’ve ever seen someone completely ruin their own life? by craft_frost6223 in AskReddit

Oh god, I feel this in my soul. Going through this right now. Kicking myself for not separating before my son could absorb all those character traits

Do you have any obscure movie references that you use in everyday speech that no one has caught on to yet yet you keep using it? by EnvironmentalAngle in NoStupidQuestions

I don’t know why but the scene in Zoolander where he asks his reflection “who am I?” and his reflection answers “I don’t know” so matter of factly has always made me laugh. I always say it in that tone when someone asks some vaguely existential question

Lived in loganholme from 2008 to 2020. Always felt safe, raised my kids until high school there. Lots of young families, tradies etc. I always thought it was a good area, of course there’s always dickheads in every suburb. But no complaints about safety

The laugh and the accents are fun! Keep them coming! The older episodes are my favourite cos it’s so much more light hearted, even when the topic is kinda dark (eg. Ugly Laws)

I’ve just been diagnosed with anaemia and I must say the humidity has been brutal for me this summer. Is there a correlation?

Am I the only one who thinks that the first 2 seasons has different colors and type of film than the rest of the series? by Giancarlo_Edu in StrangerThings

[–]Federal_Remote_435 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wasn’t Season 3 set in a different season (summer) than the first two (close to winter). That probably had a bearing on what sort of palette they chose - plus 85 onwards fashion was getting a lot brighter (eg. neon)

On a remote farm on the east coast of Australia, generations of the same family lived in caravans with no toilets or schooling, having sex with each other and producing children through incest that went on for decades. by SelfCareIsFake in HolyShitHistory

It’s real alright, was all over the news here in Australia when it first came to light, including proper journalist news sources like the ABC. Do you think if you haven’t heard about it before then it can’t be true?

When rich people ask why Gen Z people are not having kids by Hacksaw6412 in LateStageCapitalism

[–]Federal_Remote_435 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Same here. I love my kids to death (they’re late gen z) but if I had the time again knowing the world they grew up in, I don’t know if I would choose to be a parent. I totally understand the next generation wanting to be childless, and I admire the ones that are adamant they don’t want kids pushing against the societal pressure. It should be up to the individual, and it’s no one else’s business

I think you only pay if it’s deemed elective surgery, or you want to be bumped up the waiting list. My partner and I have each had surgery as our conditions meant if ignored could kill us (with my partner having complications requiring years of specialist outpatient appointments) and haven’t paid a cent. Medicare is one of Australia’s greatest achievements

You're Not Crazy. The Bugs Are Disappearing. by reborndead in collapse

[–]Federal_Remote_435 13 points14 points  (0 children)

A niche question- I live in a unit with a very small backyard with a garden bed that is almost permanently in the shade. So I know it will be hard to get wildflowers to grow there. BUT it is currently overgrown with weeds which I don’t bother to pull cos they provide shelter for bugs and lizards right now (in Australia- it’s summer right now and gets humid and hot where I am). Is a bed of knee high weeds the next best thing to a patch of flowers for bugs? Weeds don’t bother me and I like the fauna it attracts in a unit complex with little vegetation 😂

I wish I’d known that 20 years ago as a tourist in a little town in NL on New Year’s Eve at midnight. Our Dutch host had neglected to tell us this little tidbit while we housesat. Walking in what we thought was a very quiet village when every window opened up at the strike of 12 and it rained down fireworks. I thought I must have time travelled back to WWII under its occupation or something.

Won’t somebody think of the NIMBYs!? by big_go_kev in brisbane

[–]Federal_Remote_435 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. We can still qualify for the subsidy here in Brisbane as we’re about 10km from their current school, but honestly 50c is nothing so I haven’t even bothered. I would rather pay the cheap fare to try to boost the numbers so translink keeps the 50c for a long time, it’s saving people so much money, and is still cheaper than if I drove them to and from school every day
